1988 I well remember when Maurice parked his french bean can - sorry - car, outside my house, prior to his departure for the long haul to Orkney. The photo's around somewhere - Maurice! Well its been twelve long years now and Jean & Maurice with their usual indomitable spirits are settled in their new environment amidst the friendly people of Sanday. The following is an extract from the Sanday Homepage on the Internet:
On the 24th June 1993, with the blessings of our bishop, the Right Reverend Bishop Mario Conti of Aberdeen, the Holy Eucharist was placed in a tabernacle, in a room at Saville (a private dwelling house in the Burness district of Sanday) especially reserved for this sacred mystery. The room is called The Chapel of the Sacred Heart. Through this great blessing and wonderful privilege we are able to have a Holy Communion Service every Sunday Morning at 10.a.m. We also have the Rosary on the First Friday of each month at 6.00p.m. followed by a short communion service. Father Michael Spencer, from Our Lady & St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kirkwall, visits us regularly each month to celebrate Mass. This occurs during a weekday. We do try, during the week, to keep to Morning Prayer at approximately 10.00 a.m. and Evening Prayer at between 5.00 and 6.00 p.m. We do welcome any one to join with us in praise and thanksgiving at any of these services. During weekdays however, please telephone and check with us as we may be able to adjust the times to suit your needs. Thank you> (this note was contributed by Maurice & Jean Soord Tel: 01857-600409) I'm sure you join me in wishing Jean & Maurice God's Blessing and every success in their new life in Sanday. You might like to make a note of the times in the above notice, then if you so desired, you could join Jean & Maurice spiritually in prayer.
