Evangelion Info
The Evangelions are not true machines. They are biomechanical recreations of the First Angel, who created the Second Impact, ADAM. We only know that NERV uses the remains of ADAM to clone a same size humanoid robot called Evangelion.
Because of this, the Evangelions are very similiar to the Angels. Every Evangelion has a red core (though it is always hidden), and EVA Units 04-13 actually use the Angel S2 Engine, which converts matter to energy with no losses.
Now for some general information about the individual Evangelions of the series:
It's highly likely that Unit 00's core was in fact built from the soul of Naoko Akagi, that is after she committed suicide in front of the MAGI having learned of Gendo's betrayal of love towards her from the first copy of Rei, whom Naoko then killed out of vengeance. This would explain why Unit 00 tries to kill Gendo and the second copy of Rei on the two seperate occasions when it runs amok.
Also, it would be safe to assume that Yui Ikari's soul exists within Unit 01's core as a result of her synchronisation accident, this would explain Shinji's frequent visions of his mother when in Unit 01's entry plug. Unit 01 is also different from the other Evas in that it wasn't built from Adam, but instead from Lilith. As Lilith is capable of instigating the Third Impact, it comes of no surprise that, Gendo and SEELE value Unit 01 significantly more than the other Evangelions. Unit 01 is effectively a viable substitute for Lilith should the need arise.
Eva's Unit 02's core was built from the soul of Kyoko Zeppelin Souryu as a result of her synchronisation accident. EVA-02 is the basis for EVA's 03 and 04, save for the fact that 04 used the S2 Engine. It is also the basis for the true Next Generation Models 05-13.
THE CORES
A sick sad fact. The Evangelions are no different from the Angels. Under their painted armour platting, they are biological creatures of flesh and blood (red or blue, varies). Another quality they share with the Angels is a red core, however it is concealed by layers of belly armour. If the players have never seen the series, then this fact should be kept a secret from them. Only the GM should rule when the correct ammount and type of damage has been caused to expose the core. All of the Evangelion cores have 300 M.D.C., and destruction of them will completely kill the EVA with no chance of repair.
Notes about Evangelion/Angel Combat
A.T. FIELDS: Fact: The A.T. Field is more than just a scientific defense system, it is believed that the A.T. Field is a spiritual barrier, representing the power of ones soul to protect itself and it's vessel. The fact is, every human has an A.T. Field, it is used to seperate all human souls and vessels (the purpose of the 3rd Impact is to remove the A.T. Field on every human being), however it never demonstrates itself the way it does for the Angels and Evangelions.
When it comes to the process of two A.T. Fields conflicting and neutralizing, several things occur. First the A.T. Fields will meet, then one of the attackers can attempt to punch the others Field out. The one with the highest strength (in other words, M.D.C. resistance) will maintain an ammount of resistance equal to the difference in A.T. Field strength (sounds like one of Ritsuko's abstract mathematics theorums doesn't it? Example: EVA-01 is facing Sachiel and closes the distance in order to attempt at neutralizing it's A.T. Field., EVA-01 has an A.T. Field with a strength of 300 M.D.C., and Sachiel's has a strength of 200, so EVA-01 easily rips apart Sachiel's field, leaving it with a 100 M.D.C. A.T. Field, confused yet?). An example of an intensively strong A.T. Field is the one used by Sahaqiel (the uses it puts it to are described in it's specific Angel entry), where EVA's 00, 01, and 02 had to combine their fields to weaken Sahaqiels. After it was weakened, (Sahaqiel's A.T. Field has a strength of 1000 M.D.C., and EVA's 00, 01, and 02 have a total strength of 900, so that left Sahaqiel with 100) EVA-00 slashed the field directly to obliterate it (Sahaquiel has a special A.T. Field, since it's used as a weapon and basically an extension of the Angel's body, it can be directly attacked when weakened)
COMPLEX MANUEVERS W/ THE EVAS: The EVA's are both complex and simple machines. Simple, because it runs on thought and manual controls in conjunction. Complex, because at times it's like being a newborn baby learning all the complexieties of human motion. Synchronization Rates are accurate measures of the Pilots ability to perform certain manuevers. During the pilots first month of operation, checks should be often, becoming less and less frequent as they pilot obviously gains experience. The GM can incur penelities or bonuses to his leisure of course.
