Tokyo Marui Famas SV replica.
A very straight foward average quality replica. Plastic molded body and metal outer barrel, trigger, cocking handle, front and rear sling mount.
The one I purchased had a less responsive hopup compared to the more modern Marui AEGs. The hopup knob, located under the cheek piece, had to be cranked to the max inorder to get the same flight path as my other AEGs.
Nominal bodyflex, creaking. Relatively sturdy. I'd recommend this as a beginners weapon.
M16 Mag conversion performed on TM Hicap M16 Banana mags. Due to the slight differences in the Famas mag design and the M16 mag design, the bb retainer tab was not retracting suffeciently to allow BBs to pass into the Famas receiver. My solution was to remove the retainer tab and carry the mag unwound. Only start winding after the mag in inserted into the magwell, locked and loaded. After the retainer removal, the conversion performs flawlessly. Vynal fiber tape applied to reduce wearing on the magazine latch of the Famas (Plastic).
Here's a post I made on Airsoft Retreat Forum:
Pardon the old post.
I just received my Famas today, And I'd like to mention a few things that I've not read on other Famas reviews around the web. Disregard this if you know already.
Pros:
1) Piston release swtich. A feature I've not seen on any other model except the PSG1. Decompresses the spring for long term storage.
2) Ambidextrous sling mounts. And reversable cheek piece. Must be removed to adjust hop up.
3) Short metal outerbarrel that's relatively sturdy. A stable platform to allow some barrel mounted accessory.
Cons:
1) Plastic magazine latch. I foresee the metal mags eventually wearing out the latch lip, if not carefully handled.
2) Plastic sights. the front sight seemed particularly unstable. But it is well tucked away. It shouldn't be too big of a deal.
3) Plastic safty dosent rotate far enough to the left. If not careful, a gloved hand might snap off the safty that's located right in front of the trigger. Once destroyed, The battery compartment will be dificult to remove. Otherwise, a custom battery storage method must be devised.
4) Seemingly unresponsive hop up. I don't know how many other TM Famas owners are out there. It seems an unusual amount of turning must be done to influence the BB flight path. It dosen;t seem to be as responsive as ANY of my other TM AEGs. I believe I may just have gotten a lemon. A new hop up bucking might be required. If anyone else have this problem. Please let me know. Thnaks in advance.
5) M16 mag conversion is some what less than perfect. Compared to the Famas mags. The M16 mags have a feed port with rims that's just a hair off. So the m16 mag dosen't go in as smoothly as a famas mag. Some slight forcing is required. Fortunately, Once enguaged, You can feel the BB's move into the chamber, So, If you don't feel like purchasing additional Famas mags, You can actually get away with M16 Mags.
6) I don't recommend this replica for a large person. I'm short with small hands and wrist. a larger framed person might experience cramped area around the wrist right behind the thumb. where there are a few angular parts of the gun body that digs into the bony edges on your wrist. I think collared gloves will help a bit, if not, it would just get more cramped.
Conclusion:
Just because I've mentioned more cons than pro dosen't make this a bad gun. Fireing speed and power all seems comprable to TM AEGs. Lots of flat surfaces that you can fit rails or mounts for accessory. I only mentioned things that Ihaven't read elsewhere. I still dig this replica and will use it in games.
