This wasn't too bad of a job. I took the Beaver, had to rip out the seats and seat the passenger up front, and even so it was jam-packed, but at least we got everything in. First went to go get the welder and put it in, then met the photographer, Anne-Marie Yarber, in the parking lot. We loaded the stuff up in my pickup, and got it all in 2 trips. Went out to the ramp, preflighted it, and got ready to go.
Weather at PAJN was good, some broken clouds at 6000, and about the same throughout the flight. Taxied to the runway behind a Learjet, watched him take off, then was cleared. Taxied onto the runway, and took off.
After taking off, we did a 180 and headed out towards the Lynn Canal.
After about 45 minutes, we came up on the airport. We had been announcing our position since 25 miles out, and entered the pattern on downwind for Runway 8. Turned base, then final.
Came in rather hot, because of all the added weight, but touched down without much trouble. (I need to fix the paintjob on this sometime, gotta get rid of the blue semicircle and on the top the textures don't quite line up)
After we parked, we unloaded all of Anne-Marie's equipment, she paid me and went on over to the building. I got back in, and decided to fly the second leg to BFUbc on Bushnet. Taxied back over to Runway 8, announced my intentions, and took off.
I decided I would cruise at 6000 and navigate over the glacier, rather than find my way through the valleys, which would take more time and fuel. Here I am climbing after takeoff.
About the time I made it over the shoreline, I reached cruise altitude. Here I am going out towards the glacier.
I decided to follow the flat land over to Llewelyn Glacier (where I lost a plane once before), and then peel altitude as I got out over Atlin Lake. Here I am en route to Llewelyn.
As I got closer and out over Llewelyn, I knew I would need more altitude to get over the hump. I decided to climb to 8000.
Soon after, Atlin Lake came into sight.
I spotted a little creek, looked at my map, and saw that it led into Atlin Lake. I turned into it...
...pulled the throttle back, and bled away the altitude. At about 4000 I came to the end of it and turned to go up the canal and into BFUbc.
I settled back down at around 3000, and headed up the channel to the base, set for a water landing (I hate landing on the runway there--I always embarrass myself).
As I came up on it, I scanned the water near the dock, checking for any obstructions.
After seeing only the boat and buoys that are normally there, I did a 180...
...and landed.
I taxied over to the dock...
...and parked it.
Afterwards I shut it down, and got the welder out. Decided to spend the night at BFUbc, and headed back to PAJN in the morning. Thanks for the job, it was fun.
