To date, we have been used to traditional bridges and tooth prosthetics. Both of them help people, but have considerable disadvantages.
Tooth bridges are used to cover the gap between the teeth like a bridge crossing a river. Hence, a dental bridge requires at least two firm carrying abutments. To make a dental bridge, it is usually necessary to grind off full, completely functional and healthy teeth.
Total tooth replacement sometimes brings even more problems. Denture wearers know that prosthetics “fail” to stay in place after some time: Why? The reason is the progressive loss of bone tissue under the prosthetics. Some people even experience hypertrophy of the oral mucosa in the part under the prosthetics. The prosthetics hold worse and worse. The wearer of a loosened prosthetics is unable to chew food properly, which often causes him/her severe digestive tract disorders. In addition, he/she is unable to fully socialize.
