The Mexican Challenge
The story / rules are below the image.....
These Mexicans have been captured after all have been guilty of
drug dealing, and are now upto their necks in sand facing a wall, 3 on one side
and one on the other side, as shown. They are numbered. 1: Pedro
2: Sanchoz
3: Pepe
4: Carlos
The Sheriff has decided that he will let all of them go free if they do one certain task, however, if someone speaks and they are not the only person that can correctly identify their hat, then they will all be shot:
TASK
ONLY ONE of the 4 people can correctly identify the colour of their own hat.
Using THESE rules, decide on WHO it is and HOW / WHY he can
state the colour of his own hat:
each person knows that there are 4 of them,
they know that there are 2 BLUE and 2 RED hats
each person DOES NOT ALREADY know the colour of their own hat
there is NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL
everybody has a forward view towards the wall.
they CANNOT look to the side or behind them otherwise they will be shot.
no-one can look round, over, through the wall etc etc.
they know where each of them are positioned, (e.g, Pedro knows he is the only one on that side of the wall, and Sanchoz knows that there are 2 people behind him, and pepe knows that carlos is behind him, and carlos can see that there are 2 in front of him and knows that none are behind him etc.)
AS SOON AS THE PERSON REALISES, THAT PERSON MUST SHOUT OUT THE COLOUR OF THEIR HAT, STRAIGHT AWAY
HINTS: - go through each of the people and assess what
they can see by looking forward, and why they cant call out their own.

Who is the only person that can call out the colour of their hat, what colour is it, and why?
