NME AWARDS TOUR LIVE IN BRISTOL REVIEW
9/2/2002 Bristol Uni
THE CORAL : 7.20pm
1st on were the Coral who sound like Cast go fishing. This meant thet sounded like an out of tune sea shantey. The only highlight of their set being their shouting abusive lyrics at a guy in the crowd that had been throwing kisses at the keyboard player all evening which the keyboard player didn't take too kindly to and got quite upset. I can understand why some people like the Coral they are very different but they fitted in on this bill like a fish out of water.
BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB : 8.10pm
Up next were Black Rebel Motorcycle Club which I had heard many good things about them. They started off quite well but after a while you could see that they crowd were getting restless and board. The music wasn't going anywhere and I couldn't even see the point in watching anymore you could see all their good idea's but it was as exciting as watching paint dry. If only they could have put on a lively performance.
LOST PROPHETS : 9.00pm
I've always been a fan of the Lost Prophets and have seen them many times before. Tonight was a really good show for them they had great spirit and ran through their set like pro's but you did have to feel sorry for the poor guy they picked on all night. They would just not leave him alone and near the end it was all just getting boring. We want to hear the songs not some onstage banter that just doesn't end. Nice try guys just no cigar.
ANDREW W.K. 9.50pm
Now to the headliners Andrew W.K. well you all know how much I love this band and tonights set was an absolute gem. Andrew was really on form and you could see the whole crowd jumping up and down from start to finish with the crowd going apsolutly crazy to Ready to Die. With it's catchey music box to it's sing a long chorus Ready to Die is a fan favourite and always goes down well when played live. Andrew remained focused all through the set even thou their was a flurry of plastic bottles being thrown from the crowd by some of the fans of the other bands. Andrew showed great carisma, not getting anoyed by this and laughed it off and keepet on playing all through the set. The highlight today was the new keyboard player Jeff Victor who really brought something to the sound and performance of the band. Jumping up and down and even playing the keyboard in mid air. This was a great performance and good fun, even winning over some new fans.

NME AWARDS TOUR LIVE IN DUBLIN REVIEW
IAN WATKINS LEAD SINGER OF THE LOST PROPHETS LIVE PICTURED ABOVE!
ANDREW WK, LOSTPROPHETS, BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB and THE CORAL played the opening night of the NME CARLING TOUR in DUBLIN last night (January 26) to a rapturous audience.
The sellout show in Dublin's Ambassador was the first time Andrew WK had played outside the US since his oversubscribed show at the London Garage in October last year. It was also the first time that LA's BRMC had played outside the US.
The show opened at 7.30pm with The Coral's original brand of Las-influenced scallydelica - which saw the first outbreak of moshing during their second song 'Badman' - setting the tone for the whole evening.
The much-anticipated BRMC live appearance, with temporary drummer Pete Salisbury (ex-The Verve), brought their Jesus And Mary Chain-styled black glamour wall-of-noise to a rapt audience. 'Red Eyes and Tears', 'Love Burns' and set closer 'What Ever Happened To My Rock N' Roll' in particular receiving the kind of welcome normally reserved for a greatest hits set.
Pontypridd's Lostprophets proved to be the biggest draw of the night with their nu-metal mix of riffage and scratching playing the highlights of 'The Fake Sound Of Progress'. Their tough meaty sound, a blend of Limp Bizkit and Faith No More lifted an electrified audience even further especially on the wonderfully-titled 'Shinobi Vs Dragon Ninja'.
New Yorker Andrew WK fantastically dumb rock brought the evening to an explosive end, running through a blistering set of high-octane party anthems. Each a paean to drinking and massive over-indulgence with highlights being (obviously) 'Party Hard' and 'Party 'Til You Puke'.
The evening took a surreal turn with the appearance of Def Leppard's Joe Elliot who insisted on being photographed with Andrew WK after the show.

ANDREW W.K. LIVE ON TOTP (TOP OF THE POPS)
7:30pm, Friday 9th Nov. on BBC1
1:45am, Sunday 11th Nov. on BBC1
The show was Andrew cramed into a venue of 30 die hard fans and several hundred press waiting to see the man they had heard and read about in the last few months. The night consited of no support band and Andrew doing a 45minute set hours after doors opened. Andrew gave a hetic jam packed run through of songs of his albun "I Get Wet" plus a few older songs. Andrew still played I love New York just dedicating it to the people that died in the twin towers disaster saying "I think this song is more relavant now than it has ever been!" and by the crowd reaction I think he was right. You would have all suspected that Party Hard would be the one that got the crowd going tonight well you would be wrong, the crowd loved Party Hard but it wasn't to the enchore starter I Want Fun that the crowd ecnited like someone had stuck a fire cracker up their backsides.
