It was three months after Julian died and Jenny Thornton was a wreck. She had been dreaming about him again like so many other dreams she had just after he died. She hadn't dreamt of him in over a month because of this she thought it was over.

She dreamt that someone, perhaps a sympathetic Shadow Man, carved Julian's name back into the runestave. No, she thought, it's just a dream, there's no such thing as a sympathetic Shadow Man. What if the dream did carry some truth? If so, Would he leave them alone? Would he leave Jenny alone? Did she want to be left alone?

Lately, Jenny and Tom had been getting into some fights. Fights about her still being attached to Julian. Ones about things not being the same since she met Julian and he died. The hardest thing about it was there was truth to the arguments.

Well, if my dream is true, I wish him luck in his new life, Jenny thought. At least he'll know how to love and how not to be cruel. "It's midnight, I should go back to sleep so I wont be tired in the morning," Jenny murmured to herself.

As Jenny drifted off, she was thinking about how nice it would be if Julian came back. Maybe that thought was what started it up again.

**********

She woke up at nine o'clock am with the feeling that she had been missing for months. It made her uneasy as she was getting dressed. She decided to phone Dee and Audrey and ask them to come over. As she was waiting, she got fed up with the feeling. Exasperated, she said "all right, show yourself!" Not expecting an answer, she turned back to watching the driveway.

All of a sudden someone spoke. "You called?" Instantly she knew who it was. Turning around, Jenny caught the first sight of Julian in over three months. She felt like she had gotten struck by lightning.

All she could get out was, "What happened?" She then reeled back at the sight of him, God, she thought, I'd forgotten how beautiful he was.

"Your wish is my command," he said mockingly, "I've been watching your dreams although until today, I couldn't do anything about it."

"So what I dreamt was what happened? Another Shadow Man brought you back?"

"Yes, he was biding his time to get back at the others. It wasn't sympathy though, it was his rebellion against their power. He did give me the runestave though, that was kind of him. They can't do the same thing again!" He gave a little laugh. "The unkind thing was I'll have to go back into the shadows to watch and never be with you. Tommy boy is the luckiest guy on earth to have you."

"I don't how long that's going to last, we've been getting into fights lately--"

All of a sudden they heard a screech. "Well Dee and Audrey are here," Jenny said wryly, "I think Dee was driving."

Dee and Audrey walked in just as Jenny said that. "Very funny," Dee said, "actually, Audrey was driving." Dee looked around and spotted Julian before Audrey did. "What's he doing here?"

"Yeah, I drove like crazy to get here because you sounded really upset," then what Dee said clicked, "what's who doing here?" She then spotted Julian, "oh, what is He doing here." Now turning to address Julian, "you know, you don't know when to quit, do you."

"Well to address all of your questions, Jenny's dreams had power over me at first as I was in dreamland..." he paused for a second, "not the loveliest place to be. She dreamt me back just after that Shadow Man carved my name back into the runestave, so the first place I saw in real life was Jenny's room."

Not even breaking her stare at Julian, Jenny muttered, "Dee, Aud, can you leave us alone for a minute?" Without even waiting for a reply, Jenny moved closer to Julian again. She could here the click of the door closing after Dee and Audrey. "Were alone you know."

"Yes, I'm all to aware of that. Why are you doing this to me. I don't want to do what I did last time and end up with you hating me. It's unbearable seeing you and not being able to do anything" Julian's face betrayed this weakness.

"What happens if I want you to do something about it. Tom and I have been growing apart, you know."

"You just want to use me to get back at him. If you really mean what you just said, I'll be waiting for you. All you have to do is call." He then proceeded with disappearing.

"Dee, Aud, you can come back now," in almost a whisper she added, "he's gone."

"Where'd Shadow Boy go?" Dee asked? "He was here a minute ago."

"He went away again, not for good, just for a little while." Jenny was like she always was after talking to Julian. Weakened, flustered, confused, and kind of wistful now. "He'll be back."
