COKE FACES MASS RACE BIAS LAWSUIT

Softdrink giant Coca-Cola is being sued for discrimination by a group of black
American employees who claim they are paid less and have fewer opportunities
for advancement than white employees. A federal court class action has been lodged
by four past and present employees. Coke spokesman Rob Baskin said he couldn't
comment on specific details of the lawsuit before seeing it but said the company
didn't believe the case had any merits. "Coca-Cola doesn't tolerate discrimination
and if any discrimination is found, action is taken to stop it.

Coca-Cola and Cadbury Schweppes have scrambled to revamp
their softdrink merger after Australia's competition watchdog
knocked back the initial deal.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission was concerned
Coca-Cola would gain control of the carbonated soft drink market
and might increase prices to more than competitive levels if the
deal went ahead.
The soft drink merger in Australia was part of a $US1.85 billion
($A2.9 billion) global play by Coca-Cola to acquire Cadbury Schweppes's
brands in 120 countries.
Professor Fels(ACCC chairman) said the proposed acquisition would increase
Coke's market share in the carbonated soft drink market from 65% to about
75%
