Skills & Work Experience

Hardware Experience

Over the years, I have gained much experience in installing various pieces of computer hardware. I have bought and installed numerous PCI, ISA, and AGP cards and installed them in my systems as well as systems for friends and acquaintances. I have experience installing RAM (SIMMs, DIMMs, SDRAM, and DDR-RAM), Processors (AMD and Intel), motherboards, and drives (Floppy, Zip, Hard Disks, CD-ROM, DVD, CD-RW, etc.).

In addition to installing various pieces of equipment, I have experience in building computer systems from scratch using parts that I have personally ordered.

I also have experience with installing external devices including scanners, printers, gamepads, and many other devices via parallel, serial, and USB connections.

Networking Experience

In December of 2001, I invested in an RJ-45 networking kit. Since then, I have made numerous Cat-5 cables for personal use as well as for use in networks of friends and acquaintances. I have experience in making both crossover and patch cables, and networking computers running Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, as well as Red Hat Linux. I have experience with connecting hubs, switches, and routers, as well as cable modems.

I administrate my own LAN at home that connects four computers. Three computers run Windows 2000 Professional, and the fourth runs Red Hat Linux 7.1. I also have experience running Samba, as my Red Hat Linux system currently provides network access to two hard drives shared via Samba.

I also serve as the part-time network administrator for my church, Union Hill Baptist, where I ordered and installed the networking cards, and hub, as well as ran the Cat-5 cable necessary to connect three computers: two desktops running Windows 2000 Professional, and a laptop running Windows XP Professional.

Operating System Experience

I have a high familiarity with PCs, having used them since 1995, allowing me to have multifaceted experience with a variety of operating systems such as Windows 3.11/95/98/Me/2000/XP, as well as Linux (Red Hat, Slackware, Mandrake), and a few flavors of UNIX (SunOS, FreeBSD). Currently, I use Windows 2000 Professional and Red Hat Linux 7.0 at home, and Windows XP Professional at work.

Web Design Experience

I began learning HTML as a senior in high school in 1996. I started creating webpages at first strictly for personal use. When I started taking classes at Auburn, I quickly gained a reputation for being knowledgable in HTML, and friends often did and still do turn to me for advice on designing webpages. During college, I added several web building skills to my repertoire including javascript, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), DHTML, CGI, Perl, and PHP, as well as utilizing Oracle and MySQL databases for webpage output.

In September of 2000, I became certified in HTML 3.2, HTML 4.0, and javascript from Brainbench, but I have not renewed my certifications since they expired in 2001.

In February of 2001, I was hired by the department of Entomology and Plant Pathology to design a website to provide Alabama Peach Growers with up to date weather information. I currently maintain these pages.

In October of 2002, I was hired by a local Christian Band, Someday Heaven, to design and maintain their website.

In April of 2003, I volunteered my web design services for Union Hill Baptist Church, the church that I attend, and recommended a webhost, as well as designed the church website which I routinely maintain.

In December of 2004, I began developing a new website for the company I work for, Alpine Advertising Agency. It is currently under construction and should be posted in the next few weeks.
