Teachers
With a heart as big as the world can see,
They took me into their caring custody,
Nursing my mind with wisdom and care,
Enlighten my paths in my dark despair.
They taught me all the things from A to Z,
And showed me the numbers of one, two, three,
From drawing and painting to writing skills,
They guided me to rhyme out 'Jack and Jill.'
The masters parted their knowledge to me,
Of science, mathematics, and geography,
Valueless teachings about the world,
That molded me and other boys and girls.
Sacrifices that the great teachers made,
Have freed me from all toilsome barricades,
Endless dilemmas, to them I confide,
Like an armor, they shielded me with pride.
The revolutionary side of me,
Has never discouraged their certainty,
Of spreading their wings to children around,
Regardless of whether we are black or brown.
The spirit of their noble vocation,
Is indeed a commendable notion,
The fine work from their virtuous heart,
Has turned me into a piece of art.
So thank you teachers, my great, great mentors,
For everything that you have strive for,
I know that this world will be as lovely,
As long as your words are present to me.
