Former Liverpool manager Joe Fagan has died after an illness at the age of 80.

Fagan, who led the Reds to the treble in his first season as boss, was a loyal Anfield servant who served the club for 27 years.

A former player with Manchester City, he joined the Liverpool backroom staff in 1958 and worked his was way up through the ranks.

Steeped in the best traditions of the legendary boot room, Fagan succeeded Bob Paisley as manager in 1983. He resigned in May 1985, immediately after the European Cup Final against Juventus.

Joe Fagan will be remembered as a true Liverpool legend.
