The Choice They Made

She told her dad she was going out for a ride.
She promised her mom she had nothing to hide.
They walked down the hall at a very slow rate.
The man told her boyfriend he'd have to wait.

He kissed her cheek and took her hand.
He said: We can still turn back; Our parents will understand.
She promised she'd be back soon,
And she left the guy all alone in the room.

He looked at a magazine; he paced in the hall.
Deep down, he really didn't want to do this at all.
On the way home, she began to cry.
He took her hand and asked God, "Why?"

"Why did this have to happen to us?
It was only one night of love and lust.
Now it's all over; this can't be true.
There has to be something that you can do."

"We never would have made it," she said. "It's much better this way."
We can't live on one highschool diploma and a job of minimum pay.
You have to finish highschool. You don't need a baby now.
We'll get through this some way, some how."

They got out of the car, and he walked her to the door.
She wiped a tear away and said, "I don't love you anymore."
He shook his head; they both knew it wasn't true.
But this situation had torn both of their hearts in two.

He kissed her again and walked away.
She knew she wouldn't be seeing him the next day.
He drove down the street and out of her life.
But she still told her parents that she was alright.

Ten years later, she's married with two kids.
And she still hasn't seen her highschool sweetheart since
The day they went for a little ride.
A day where both of them cried and cried.

Sometimes she still wonders what might have been.
"Would we have married? Our child would be almost ten."
Nobody really knows where he traveled to.
Some say he's in Tulsa; some say Timbuktu.

So, girls, think twice before you give into a guy.
For these kind of incidents happen all the time.
Guys, take responsibility for the things you do.
And remember, you've got your whole life ahead of you.
