Eric's Storm

I cried a thousand tears, but still you never came. they told me you were gone; that you had left with the rain. And hey, you know me, I didn't believe what they said. I told them that they lied. That you couldn't possibly be dead. I knew you couldn't leave me all alone in a world so cold. I had more faith in you, So i told them they were wrong. I just knew that you'd be back, that perhaps you'd lost your way. I told them they misunderstood, and there was no need for them to stay. So now i sit here all alone, while the shadows play across the wall. I wait and wait to hear from you, could you have forgot to call? Doubts keep running through my mind, and when i try to push them away, a voice inside my head tells me that maybe they should stay. I hide myself from the truth, though i know you're really gone. My head's already accepted it, but my heart waits by the phone. I haven't eaten or slept a wink, and the time is a later date. Last night i had this crazy dream, and you told me why your call was late. You told me that they were right, and you're sorry you let me down, but that when the storm first broke out, you couldn't find safe ground. You said the thunder was so loud, but you thought you heard me call your name, and then the lightning flashed one last time, and you left with the rain. This is dedicated to my cousin, Eric Dupree McClain 1979-1997 I miss you man
