This is a great pic Wolfgang sent me, from last year's Australian Open. The lucky bastard has got tickets for every day of this year's Open, too, so he'll get to see my Jimmy in action! (note to Wolfgang: "lucky bastard" is a term of endearment. :-) Thanks again for the pic!)
Here's a great Courier anecdote, that I read in the epilogue of "The Courts of Babylon"
Jim was playing doubles with Sampras a few years ago in Italy, and the match was not going well for the Americans. The crowd was clearly rooting for their Italian opponents, and one man in particular was being especially rude and distracting. After the match (which Courier and Sampras lost) the rude tennis fan ran up to Jim and shoved a pizza box in his face, asking him to autograph it, "for Italia". Surprising Sampras, Jim actually stopped and took the box, found a pen, and signed "F*ck you, Jim Courier".
Aww, witty guy my Jimmy is, eh? :-)
Here's another cute quote I read about my Jimmy, in Andre Agassi's biography:
"At the young age of 14, when Andre and Jim were both training at Nick Bolleteiri's Tennis Academy in Florida, Andre was already a strapping young man, and already turning the heads of teenage girls, while all Jim turned was lobster pink in the sun."
Aw, poor Jim! Don't worry Jimmy, Andre's lookin' a little chunky these days! :-)
Just to show ya how multitalented my Jimmy is, I'm gonna tell ya about how Jim played for REM once. It was a few years ago after Jim lost an Australian Open match, and he decided to stick around to see his fave band, REM, perform in a concert that night. REM introduced Jim as their "special guest" and invited him to play drums with them for one song. Jim started out with a couple mistakes, prompting lead singer, Michael Stipe, to say into the mike "You should see us play tennis." After that, Jim got the rhythm going, and played an excellent set.
Nice story, huh? Wish I could've been there to see it, since I love REM too!
