Well Suited to the Colony  (ISBN 0646341626, 287 pages) by Gillian Kelly was financed and published by the Australian Society of the Lacemakers in 1998, partly to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the lacemakers arrival in Australia and partly as a definitive record of "the story of the lace workers from Calais, born in the Midlands, trapped between the poorhouses of England and the French Revolution, who appealed to emigrate to the colonies of Australia in 1848".
