Asalaha
Puja: Thursday, July 21, 2005
Asalaha
Puja is known as Sangha Day.
Asalaha Puja is celebrated on the full-moon
day of the eighth lunar month. It is a sacred day for
Buddhists. On this day, the Lord Buddha gave his first
sermon and one of his followers became the first Buddhist
monk. The followers of the Buddha are together called
the Sangha, and that is why Asalaha Puja is called 'Sangha
Day'.
During the one-day retreat, we will be paying respect
to the Buddha (The Great Teacher), the Dhamma (The Truth)
and the Sangha (The community of those genuinely seeking
the Truth), practising walking and sitting meditation
in the Vipassana (Insight) Meditation tradition, and listening
to a Dhamma talk on the Noble Eightfold Path.
