Ship-O-Meter: 7 ISM-O-METER: 7 Scully: Seamonsters can only be read about, Mulder, because they
don't exist. Mulder: We'll think of it as a test of our metal. OVERALL
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 7. It had a bunch
of funny little quips and gestures. Like the how Mulder opened the
trailer door for Scully, but only to be thrown outside by the wind.
And on Nance road, as Scully talks with the operator on her cell phone,
she says "Yes, it is a stupid idea [to be driving]". Mulder just does
this animated face to mock her. Not to mention the ending when Mulder
tries to act like he knew the secret of survival. It was so macho it
was hilarous! He was embarrased by Scully! What would have been funny
is if the cat would have attacked Mulder and scratched up his face!
Scully: Help me help you! (Gee, now that was original)
Mulder: If the sea is where life first began -- where our ancestors
first walked ashore -- then who's to saw what new life may be
developing in its uncharted depths?
Scully: You know what, maybe you are a member of the Manson family.
(I wanna know, is that Marilyn or Charles Manson?)
Scully: I don't need my metal tested
This ep was a great mix of terror, characterization, shippiness,
dialogue, and medical action. I did catch a few...glitches in this ep
written by newbie David Amaman. When the power lines are down, for
example, how is it possible that the phone lines are up for the Mexican
couple to call 911? Also, how did Commi George have electricity for
all the lights on his apartment? My only complant is something I
noticed while watching this for the 2nd time. There were several false
build-ups of horror. Like the cat in the washer, the shirt making the
drain overflow, and Mulder tearing away the shower curtain only to find
an empty tub. Speaking of the cat, didn't that just remind you of that
crappy episode with the deadly cats? Okay, maybe it's just me... Those
were my only problems with the ep, besides the aburpt ending. That
wasn't so bad since Dales gave a summary of what happened.
I give it an 7.25 overall. Very watchable, good acting by GA and
DD, nice lighting, and continual suspense and terror.
