On Saturday, November 4th, the Ottawa Gee Gees badminton team was in the Montpetit Gym competing in the second of five regular season tournaments in the 2000-2001 season. Our competition for this tournament included Toronto and McMaster. Our goal for the weekend was to beat all both teams, but we knew we had to play well to stay undefeated.
We started the day by playing the stronger of the two teams, Toronto. With many of Toronto’s stronger players graduating last year, we were able to dispose of them quite easily with an 8-3 win. In the afternoon, our opponents were McMaster. Our dominance was once again evident, as we were able to handle McMaster 9-2.
Due to the strength of our team, the entire depth of our lineup was given the chance to play against both teams. Our coach is proud of our results and is pleased that everyone on the roster was able to participate toward our victories. On an individual level, congratulations to Jenny Kue & Anh Chu (Doubles), Terry Lo (Singles), Gary Wan & Lakshman Gunaratnam (Doubles), and Thomas Lam & Jeff Wolak (Doubles) for remaining unbeaten. Tania Perron and Isabelle Proulx have also had strong performances in the first two tournaments.
The Gee Gees badminton team’s next regular season tournament is on Sunday, November 26th, 2000 at Brock University in St. Catherine’s where our competition will include Waterloo, Western, and the host team Brock.
