William Byrum Goodson was
Green Berry Goodson's brother.
His descendants live around Villanou, GA

historian. Her name is Viola
Smith and the phone # is (706)

generation and is very helpful. I want
to know about Green Berry's middle name
being Gordon also. I'm confused about
the dates you mention about your father
and mother being married. Could it be
1928 instead of 1828? Please reply
asap.

From what we were able to put together through various records, William Goodson who appeared on 1830 Habersham Co, GA census with wife Sarah ___? and three young daughters was murdered by Wyley Anderson in 1831. Apparently Jeremiah Martin and Jesse Anderson were also charged, but other details are not known. After the death of William Goodson, Sarah then md Ambrose Fitzgerald who applied for guardianship of the children in 1839. In 1847
Jarrett N Dover applied to court to have Ambrose Fitzgerald removed as guardian. Matilda was already md to Jarrett Dover so, I assume, this must have been for the benefit of younger sisters?

The Georgia Black Book, Vol 1 by Robert Scott Davis Jr:
pg 143 - #78 - On 5 Aug last, Wylly Anderson murdered William Goodson in Habersham County. Issued 4 Oct 1831. Anderson is a small man, black eyes and hair, quick spoken & has been charged with the commission of many crimes.

NOTE: I have worked with several researchers recently who also have old family in Habersham Co, GA. They represent ANDERSON, DOVER, SHIRLEY, FRANKLIN, IVESTOR, DOOLY, and CROSS, just to name a few. Out of this group, the bits and pieces fell into place on the William Goodson family. None of us have the actual court documentation for any of this. Several had been to Habersham Co in the past, and this data was compiled from various notes and abstracts. If there is someone that can obtain a copy of the actual
documents, we would very much like to have a copy to pass around in our little group. There are also some other legal documents on the estates of Jarrett N Dover and Matilda (Goodson) Dover in Habersham Co. Can give further data on these if someone has access to the records.
There was so much intermarrying between the groups of people named above, it's a matter of peeling away the layers, to figure out who was who. William Goodson's descendants have been pretty well filled in. BUT, I must emphazise that there is no actual documentation that William was actually the s/o Nancy. The same for my Anna (Goodson) Dover -- other than the fact that she fits the household of Nancy in 1830 Habersham Co, GA and there was no other Goodson known to be around at the time. I believe, but cannot yet prove, that Jarrett N Dover and my Elijah Benson Dover were brothers and the sons of Johnson Dover / Hulda Cross. (That's another story ----) There are a number
of connections of the Goodson descendants of Jacob and John Alexander Goodson that are connected to the Wm Simpson Dover line through either Dover or Dooly
marriages. Wm Simpson and Johnson are the sons of Francis J Dover (Rev War Sol). I have a lot of information on those connections through my many years
of Dover research.
I am including information on my line of Goodson starting with Anna, my ggg grandmother, believed to be the d/o Nancy Goodson:
ELIJAH BENSON DOVER / ANNA GOODSON
Elijah Benson Dover b 13 Jan 1817 SC d 15 Sep 1899 Pulaski Co, AR was a Baptist minister. He md #1 Anna Goodson 16 Mar 1837 in Habersham Co, GA. ANNA GOODSON b 16 Feb 1811 NC died prior to the 1860 census. Elijah Benson left GA and moved to Conway Co, AR ca 1857/58.
Children:
1 William Dover b 14 Dec 1837 GA (no futher data)
2 Naney Dover b 4 Aug 1839 GA (died prior to 1850 census)
3 Elisabeth Dover b 7 Sep 1840 GA d 3 Nov 1911 Era, Cooke Co, TX md #1 Jesse Brickey #2 William Maddox #3 James M Waddell
4 Ann Dover b 1 Mar 1842 GA d 27 May 1923 Tuska, Atoka Co, OK md #1 Nathaniel G Brickey #2 James Emerson (Ann and James are my gg grandparents)
5 Thornton Dover b 12 May 1844 Lumpkin Co, GA (Last known record was discharge 1862 from CSA in AR. Did not file for a pension in AR)
6 Eliza Dover b. 11 Dec 1846 GA d. 1876 Boone Co, AR md Logan Walker Tucker
7 Ruth Dover b 9 June 1848 GA d 22 Mar 1874 in Pulaski Co, AR md Andrew J Stobaugh
8 Lilla Suson Dover b 20 Apr 1850/51 GA (moved to Cooke Co, TX) md William D Johnson
After Anna's death, Elijah Benson Dover md #2 Mrs. Mary Beasley #3 Mrs Eliza M Davis and had additional children with both.
NOTE: I have the orginal BIBLE record in my possession of Elijah Benson Dover / Anna Goodson with names and dob for children.
I live in east Texas.
