Darryl is a double dad
Darryl Sydor is such a rink rat that coach Ken Hitchcock once joked that on the rare occasions
the Stars have off, Sydor would be at the StarCenter shaving his sticks. But Sydor may have found
the balance he has been striving for. Please click

Skrudland Hurt
Brian Skrudland's chest contusion will keep him out six to eight weeks, coach
Ken Hitchcock said.
With Skrudland and center Joe Nieuwendyk out, and center Roman
Lyashenko nursing a sore shoulder, the Stars recalled Aaron Gavey from the
Michigan K-Wings.
That will allow Kirk Muller to play wing, where Hitchcock wants him, instead of
center. Muller probably will play on the line with Mike Modano and Brett Hull,
while Jere Lehtinen moves to another line, Hitchcock said.
Hatcher still out
Stars captain Derian Hatcher, recovering from a lacerated calf muscle, was
walking Tuesday, which was a good sign considering he is supposed to be
out six to eight weeks. He said he will be reevaluated in about 10 days.
"So far it's gotten better every day, but I don't know what to expect," Hatcher
said. "I hear everything from six weeks to three months. If I get to six weeks
and they say another month, then I'll be mad."

Lukowich benched
Stars defenseman Brad Lukowich said he received the message coach Ken
Hitchcock sent when he was scratched from Monday's game against Los
Angeles.
"Maybe that's what I needed, a little wakeup call," Lukowich said. "The last
time I sat out for not playing good . . . I think I responded in a good way."
Lukowich said he watched the game at ice level, near the zamboni area,
isolating on defenseman Richard Matvichuk.
"I watched the little things that I would do in certain situations and what he
did," Lukowich said. "There weren't a lot of differences. He just did things with
authority. It was good for me to watch that game up close and not worry about
the next shift."
Manny playing well
Stars backup goalie Manny Fernandez enters Wednesday's game against
Nashville having won four straight games. But he's not patting himself on the
back, although he has a 2.03 goals-against average and a .923 save
percentage.
"I think the streak comes from the way the team is playing," he said. "I don't
think I'm doing anything different. If anything, I'm playing worse than I did
before, point wise."
Cup Craziness
Over its 106 years, the Stanley
Cup has been drop-kicked into a
canal, left on a roadside and
strapped on a jet ski. But the
Stars may be the first team to
throw it from a second-floor
balcony into a pool. And that's
how it got a three-inch ding in it,
according to one report. For the complete story click
