When my little girl's mother died, I was the one who had to tell her. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Her mother and I had never married. We had been separated for several years. I had custody of our daughter, Danielle, because of her mother's lifestyle. I had to take full responsibility for Danielle. I vowed to find someone who would be a good mother to her. I wanted to find someone who would have strong faith in God and be virtuous and full of character. I prayed to God for guidance and wrote to many women in both the U.S. and the Philippines searching for that special one. Then I received a letter from a woman in the Philippines and after several more I could tell she was very special. Her name is Evangeline and we wrote for two years until I could save up enough money to visit her. She lives in Tagbilaran City, Bohol Province, Philippines. I met all her many friends and co-workers. They all adored her and confirmed what all those many letters had told me about her. We fell deeply in love and planned our wedding for my second trip there. On November 3, 1998, we vowed our love before God, till death do us part. It was a large Catholic wedding. After the wedding, we all went to her parents' farm for a wedding feast and reception.
About Evangeline Evangeline is a very hard worker. She works from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. six days a week. She is a sales representative for a large wholesale grocery chain. Her job is to call on small stores all over her large island. She has to travel over rough country roads in crowded busses without air-conditioning. She is very tired at the end of her day. She then goes home and washes her clothes by hand. She also must cook and clean at her boarding house. She gives her extra money to her brother so he can finish seamanship school. Many Filipinos are crew members on crewships all over the world. Evangeline has a college education in teaching and dreams of teaching in America someday. She just needs to pass her teaching board exam, but she is waiting for her brother to finish with his training first. I am so proud to be her husband. God has blessed me with a wife who has many wonderful qualities. |
