-THE CHALLENGES THAT LAY AHEAD-

As Ash was approaching his first Gym, he was determined to win his first victory over a Gym Leader. As Pikachu, Squirtle, and Mew were walking behind him, he noticed that they had all become good friends. Ash opened the gym doors, following a long corridor leading to the built in Mini-PokeCenter. He gave all his Pokemon a full recharge and bought some food for them to eat. A little girl came by and told him that Brock was using Rock type Pokemon.

Seeing that the girls Pokemon were in bad shape. "Okay everyone, are you ready to face Brock!" Pikachu, Squirtle, and Mew ran to the doors leading to the arenas to battle Brock. "Who goes there," as Brock came into appearance sitting in a chair. "I am Ash Ketchum from Pallet, I am planning to become a Pokemon Master, now lets battle!" "Okay then, the rules are that you have to choose 2 Pokemon to battle within both bouts, got it?" Ash nodded his head started deciding on which Pokemon to use. He had remembered the girl talking about Rock Types. "Okay, are you ready," as Brock jumped down onto the arena with many tall rocks on the sides.

"Sure!" Ash dropped down his backpack, as Brock called out his Onix. "Squirtle, now, Water Gun!" Onix was hit badly by Squirtle's attack, making it stunned on the ground. "Okay, power up with a Skull Bash!" Squirtle jumped from rock to rock on the side of the arena then used his Skull Bash attack, knocking down Onix onto the wall. "Okay, now try to use Hydro Pump!" As Squirtle was drawing water for the Hydro Pump, Brock gave Onix some Potion. Onix striked using its Bind attack. But Squirtle luckily used Bubble to knock this Pokemon back, giving Squirtle time to use Hydro Pump. "Now, use Hydo Pump!" Onix was hit by the high pressured water from the ground and was thrown through the wall. "What!?!?!?!" Brock yelled in amaze. "Fine, now I will use Golem!" Using Ash's PokeDex, he find out that a Golem is a Geodude's last line in evolution.

"Fine, go Mew!" As Mew jumped into the arena, Golem used Rock Throw on Mew, but Mew easily dodged the attack and used his Metronome attack. Mew's Metronome carried Golem in the air. "Mew, use Confusion!" Golem was thrown from the left wall to the right, hurting the Golem badly. Since Mew's speed is so fast compared to Golem's, Mew has been attacking ever since the beginning. Now that Golem was hurt almost down to zero HP, Mew use Mega Punch, which knocked the gigantic Pokemon clear through the wall.

"NO!" Brock pulled back his Pokemons and gave Ash the Boulder Badge. "You have beaten me fairly and this badge will really help you on your quest. You must collect 8 of these badges to enter with proof of your expertise of being a Pokemon Trainer. I give you my good luck," Brock said as Ash left into the horizon towards Mt. Moon. "This badge is my first step in becoming a Pokemon Master! Come on, lets go to Cerulean City!" Ash yelled as his Pokemon were following him.
