Still.
So still.
Such a calm surface.
Such an empty depth.
They have a name for it,
this frozen water,
this framed eye;
the window to the soul -
as if the very essence of being
could be captured and returned by a cold, flat sheet.
I wish it could capture me.
I have not owned a face for so long.
These ageless eyes, so tired of life,
of sifting through cold souls like midnight rain,
finally fall on my salvation.
You are my inversion -
warmth to my cold,
light to my darkness,
life to my death.
Yet for all we are and must be, your passion is my reflection.
The only place I can truly see myself
is in the mirror of your eyes.
And again with the disclaimer/author's note: This was inspired by Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (Angel POV), belonging to 20th Century Fox, The WB Television Network, & Mutant Enemy (Uhrr...Aargh...). I don't own "Buffy". What I do own is this poem. It's (c) me, Shade, AKA Fox Lee. It was last edited Wednesday, May 19, 1999. If you like it, why not post it on your "BtVS" page? You don't have to ask, so long as you don't edit it or cut out this message, and you e-mail me to let me know.
Gimmicky promo stuff: I've finally finished two - count 'em, two - "Buffy" fanfics, "Atherlae" and "There Can Be Only One". Hurrah! Took me long enough. Anyway, they're around the place, and I think they're worth a read. There's also a pair of songs, "Angel" and "If I Could Touch You". Oh, and my other "Buffy" poem, "Just Once". Coming soon, my third fanfic, "A Night To Remember".
