World Series

Game 1

Together in grief, together in glory. Chuck Knoblauch and Tino Martinez, vilified just 10 days ago for a blown bunt play, more than atoned for it Saturday night. Martinez hit a grand slam and Knoblauch hit a three-run homer in a seven-run seventh that rescued the New York Yankees, giving them a 9-6 victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 1 of the World Series.

Game 2

The New York Yankees appear to be getting serious about this best-team-in-baseball-history business, thrashing sloppy San Diego 9-3 in Game 2 Sunday night and threatening to make quick work of the Padres in the World Series.

Game 3

They can feel it already. One more World Series victory and the New York Yankees' electrifying season will come to an extraordinary end -- with a sweep. A 5-4 victory in Game 3 Tuesday night, courtesy of Scott Brosius' two home runs, put them right on the verge -- and, boy, do they know it.

Game 4

There simply was no other way for it to end. A World Series sweep was clearly the fitting finish for a New York Yankees team that utterly dominated the season. Andy Pettitte, MVP Scott Brosius and the Yankees made a case for being the best team in baseball history, beating the San Diego Padres 3-0 Wednesday night for a record 24th championship.

World Series Moment:

Scott Brosius was named the World Series MVP after going 8-for-17 (.471) with two homers and six RBIs in four games as the Yankees completed their sweep of the Padres with a 3-0 win over the San Diego Padres.
