In Port Arthur, Texas, on January 19th, 1943, Janis Joplin was born. She would live to be one of the greatest female blues singer, with a "in your face" attitude that kept people mesmorized. It took her two moves to San Francisco, but she finally found her niche in 1966 as the vocalist for Big Brother and the Holding Company. The coolest part about Janis is that she wasn't in it for the fame or fortune. They were just added bonuses. What she dug was that she has hanging out with her friends, digging the scene, and having a blast will doing it. She loved it so much that she put her all into it. In 1967 Big Brother played the Monterey International Pop Festival, and Janis blew the audiences minds. They became headliners soon after, then began touring, and had built a following in the mix. In late 1968 she was wanting a new direction, solo and she and Sam tried something new with Kosmic Blues. Then she tried another back-up band, Full Tilt Boogie. But Before they could produce her last album, Janis was found dead from an accidental herion overdose at the Landmark Moter Hotel in Hollywood on October 4, 1970. Janis changed the worlds views on blues and female singers. She was one of the most important artists of the 60's, and she rocks on today.
