History of the men and the dogs-no slam- Alan Scott I spent about a year randomly calling Scott`s in the phone book. One Saturday morning I called one of Alan`s cousins who gave me Alan`s mother`s phone number. Alan Scott with Black Jack I called Alan and spoke with him for about an hour. After hanging up with him I drove to his house to meet him(he looked pretty good for a long dead corpse). Alan Scott (R) with Darrin Jones (L) My first question was about Mac the Masher:Mac was a big brindle dog with a white head.Alan called him a catching fool.He tried several times to buy him from Cel Ashley .Cel wouldn`t think of getting rid of him til he thought he was too old to catch. At this point Alan was able to get him. Darrin Jones , Alan Scott, and Cel Ashley Alan has been instrumental in the development of today`s AB`s.If you go back far enough in the pedigrees you will see that the original registerd dogs were a joint effort between Alan and John D. Johnson.Visit Owl Hollow Kennel on the Backwoods Bulldog Confederation to see what Alan is up to now. W.C. Bailey, Darrin Jones, and Rayburn Stover John D. Johnson Whether you like the dogs from JDJ or not you would have to agree that he was a fan of the A.B. who promoted and advertised our wounderful breed when they weren`t popular.I have been to his house several times and found him and Mrs.Johnson to be very nice people. He speaks very fondly of Sand Man the Great(son of Mac the Masher)who along with Dick the Bruiser(a great small AB that he found on a porch in AL.)nicknamed Tiny were his foundation stud dogs. Calvin Tuck This gentleman is a cattle farmer on Sand Mountain in AL.He was introduced to the A.B.Through J.D.J whom he knew from showing Black Angus Cattle. He kept after J.D for quite a while wanting a pair of pups.Soon after getting them they both were killed in a farming accident. So .....he went back and got another pair...... Scott`s Mac the Masher Tuck`s Bo Bo Roger Johnson`s Dick the Bruiser Pursley`s Missy II Scott`s Marvelous Missy Johnson`s Ninga Smitty Tuck`s Lady Lou Johnson`s Toppie Bo BO Roger was killed by his son in a fight.Mr. Tuck lost interest in the AB after this. His biggest contribution to the AB world would be Tucks` Tiger Lady which was eventually owned by Jack Tate. Jack Tate Former school teacher Coach Tate is known mostly for his atheletic dogs.G.L.Williamson used a picture (with a litter of pups) of his female Tucks` Tiger Lady in his home town paper to advertise stud service for Popeye The Sailor. Mr.Tate got his first ABs` when he and his father bought some cattle from Mr.Tuck.The deal was that they would buy a certain amount of cattle if he would also sell them a couple of ABs` too. I`m telling the truth here if you are not after it then don`t read the rest-DJ Mr. Tate liked the brindle and white ABs` but, he wanted one of another color. He asked Mr. Abbot in Tennesee to find him one. Snow B s` Mark Tates Mr. Bud Garrets` Jojo Yes, he was a "pitbull"(but, this was not done to deceive anyone-so what does it matter anyway?) good looking dog fawn with a black mask and a fine companion to Mr.Tate.When Bud passed away Mr. Tate lost interest in breeding and fooling with the AB.You`ll also notice on pedigrees, dogs from his place with the Windy Hills prefix from his farm.
