June 1999 we went to "Otter Creek Park" off of Rt 31W, then on Rt 1638, just southwest of Loisville. Nice park area, lots of shade, hot showers, and flush toilets, however neither was clean. The nice "road" was Rt 44, it goes between Rt 31W and I-65 at Shepardsville. It was mostly posted 55Mph and had some nice sweepers going up and down the hills. Would have been fun on 2 wheels, well it was fun with 4 too actually. Hardly any traffic, and not a road I would think many Piggies would patrol.
Just a note, we went to Shepardsville because of "Go-Kart Kountry". For years on the way to Alabama, I've passed the sign on I-65 that said it was the largest in the country. Well it was a MAJOR disappointment. The track is 1.5 miles long, just a bunch of twisties, but the car I had especially was junk and you only get 1 lap. Never again.
However, the Patton Musuem was GREAT! (If you like motorcycles, you've gotta like tanks right?) A boss at NCR told me about this place a few years ago, he was right. Very cool, they have American, German, and 1 Iraq tank. It is amazing, two of the German tanks that came out at the end of the war could beat the "Total Crap" out of the Iraq tank. (T72?) The King Tiger was just Awesome. I thought the Tiger 2 was cool too, but then I turned around and saw "The King" (Elvis Lives, hee hee) They also had another German tank that was pretty cool, I can't remember the type, etc... What was really cool was it was buried in a swamp for 50 years, they got it out in 1994. It still looked like it would give the Iraq T-72 a run for it's money.
They also had a live tank demo outside. It was a German Light tank, the exhaust pipe was about 5" in diameter. You would know when one of these things was around, NO Stealth technology here. They drove it around an oval track, part gravel, part asphalt. When they were making the right turn on the gravel they would make it spin out. Pretty cool. On the 4th of July they will have a mock battle between the German tanks and the other guys. On that Saturday, they will have several other mock battles. (Civil war and other stuff) He also mentioned during the mock tank battle they have a couple of P-51 Mustangs do fly overs.
They said they have a LOT more tanks that the public never gets to see, they are stored in another area, they do not have room for them in the musuem. They have a piece of tank armor that was hit with 3 or 4 different types of shells. The one did nothing but make some scratches. Two of them made holes right through it. I could go on and on about the Patton musuem, but I'll wrap it up here.
This weekend. coming up I-75 from Cincinnati to Dayton, I encountered another group of Black bikers. There were 4 bikes at first, then only 3. They had matching jackets that said "Satan's Sidekicks" and something else that I did not understand. What was interesting was it was raining the whole time. The first bike was an older GoldThing, with windshield of course. The rider and passenger did not have face protection, just 3/4 helmets, but they were doing Ok. The next bike had no windshield, he had a 3/4 helmet "with" a faceshield, he was doing Ok? The third guy had no windshield and no face shield! He kept holding his nose with his left hand. Traffic was really slow due only the the rain, which was driving me crazy, most of the time it was NOT raining that hard. When traffice would really slow down, the bikers would pass on the right "pull-off" area of the road. Then they would get back in traffic when it started up again. We passed each other a few times this way, until I finally got by them the final time. (They were not driving very fast, maybe 40-50mph) The whole thing was rather amusing.
Has anyone else run into these "gangs" in/around Ohio?
