Came before me Simeon Ashley, Clerk of the County Court, in and for the county and state aforesaid, the same being a Court of record, James Fultz, aged about 55 years, and Jesse Fultz, aged about 50 years, and William Nunley, aged about 72 years. All of them I certify to be respectable citizens and are entitled to full faith and credit upon their oaths, and made oath in due form of law. That they are well acquainted with the applicant Sarah Jane Myers, have known her for many years. And know the fact that she is the identical person that she represents herself to be. From the fact we was near neighbors, and came home with her deceased husband, Robert S. Myers, after our discharge from the Service of the U. S. at the City of Nashville, Tennessee, on or about the ( ) day of June A. D. 1864. And know the fact that we all belonged to the same Command that Robert S. Myers belonged to, was with him at the time he was taken sick, which was at the town of Stevenson, in the State of Alabama, and on the 15th day of June A. D. 1864. And that the said Robert S. Myers lingered with said disease, Viz. As stated heretofore from the date aforesaid, doing the best he could, and obeying the orders of the Command, until we was discharged as aforesaid. And we know the fact, upon our return home after our discharge as aforesaid, and before the said Robert S. Myers arrived at his home, which was about the 25th day of June A.D. 1864, was taken very sick on the hiway from the disease contracted as aforesaid, and while in line of duty by exposure. And that we immediately sent for his old family Physician, Viz. Doctor Thomas P. Stevenson, who came and administered to his wants, and we succeeded in getting him home to his wife the applicant. And we know the fact, for often visited him during discharge which was from the time before stated, up to his death, which was on the 7th day of March, A.D. 1878. And that Doctor Thomas P. Stevenson said at the time and on divers occasions that the disease was contracted by exposure while in the service of the U. S. This we believe to be true from the facts before mentioned. And we know as a fact, that the said Robert S. Myers, never was treated in any hospital nor neither was he treated for the disease contracted as aforesaid by any Surgeon of the U. S. from the fact the said Robert S. Myers was at all times on duty when called upon. Although it was plain to us that, after the 15th day of June A. D. 1864, as before stated, the said Robert S. appeared to give way and become weaker in his health. And continued so until his death as aforesaid, and we further state that his death was caused by exposure as aforesaid, and that we was his Comrades and know the facts to be, as herein before stated. And that our Post Office address is now Manchester, Coffee County Tennessee, Care of James Price Esqr. And that we have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
And I as Clerk as aforesaid do hereby certify that the foregoing affidavit was by me read over and explained to all of the affiants before they made their mark and swore to the same.
