The first region is the Kimberleys. The wild and wonderful Kimberley is one of the world's last great wilderness areas. It covers more than 420,000 square kilometers (261,000 miles) an area three times the size of England but it is only home to 25,000 people.
Remote, rugged landscape makes this area. Lake Argyle with its 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) is more like an inland island sea than a lake. Also famous is the rare pink Argyle diamonds which are mined in the area. The mine produces some 34 million carat's of diamonds per year. In the Purnululu National Park there are thousands of huge beehive-shaped mounds called the Bungle Bungle.
They are striped in orange and black colors and rise majestically from the red earth. The Kimberely has a tropical summer and dry winter and this diverse climate changes the landscape from season to season.
