Paul Walker
Take one look at Paul Walker and you'll understand why casting directors can't help putting him in cleats. "I guess I just have that jock look," says the 25-year-old,who's the squeaky-clean, 1950's high school basketball letterman in the upcoming movie Pleasantville. Later this winter,he plays a texas high school's star quarterback (alongside second-stringer James Van Der Beek)in Varsity Blues. So is he really an athlete or is he just...acting?
"Um,I was a good football player," the Southern California native shyly admits about his team experience at Village Christian High School in Sun Valley. Paul who played a surfer in last year's Meet the Deedles-has discovered that the sporting life has an added bonus: He gets to play boyfriend to Reese Witherspoon in Pleasantville and to Claire Danes in next year's Brokedown Palace. He's been locking ips with, as he puts it, Hollywood's "top chicks!" adding, "I consider myself really fortunate." That may be an understatement: Paul just signed on to play a jock in yet another movie, the comedy She's All That. Looks like he's scored again.

Teen - May 1999
"I didn't know if acting was what I wanted to do - it seemed like a weird career in La-La Land," says impossibly babely Paul Walker. Aren't we glad he decided to go for it! Whether you first noticed him as early Pleasantville or caught on to this cutie a bit later in Varsity Blues and She's All That, odds are you can't stop panting over Paul. Fortunately, you'll be able to see him soon, playing Jason, Claire Danes' sweetie, in Brokedown Palace. When he's not filming, Paul enjoys the pleasures of a pure California boy. Most mornings you can find him riding the waves on his surfboard. Paul's also pretty close with his family: brothers Caleb and Cody, sister Ashlie and his ultra-encouraging parents. His folks are so supportive, in fact. They always believed in his acting ability and urged him to stick with it. "When things started breaking for me," laughs Paul, "I had to put up with my dad going, 'I told you so!'"

COSMO GUY
Paul Walker

Look familiar? Paul Walker first flashed his baby blues well before ascending to total hunkdom. He was peddling Pampers at the ripe old age of 2. "You name the product and I probably hawked it as a kid," laughs Walker, 24. but unlike most former child actors, time has been good to Walker, if not down right sensational. After highschool hiatus from acting, the sun-kissed California native managed to make an almost seamless transition from commercial kid to big-screen big-leaguer. His new movie, Pleasantville - about two modern-day siblings sucked into a 1950s black-and-white sitcom - couldn't be a more perfect behicle for this mover and shaker in the making. You can also catch the steely-eyed star in the teen-smuggling flick Brokedown Palace (due out next year) playing boyfriend to Claire Danes. So what would this up-an-coming wonder be doing if he hadn't had an acting-bug relapse? "Probably studying marine biology," says Walker. Starfish over stardom? We say he made the right choice.

GUY WE LOVE
Paul Walker wants you to know that he's not just another pretty surfer boy from Southern California. He's really an actor...who just happens to love surfing. Thar's why, after jumping from community college to community college and taking classes in marine biology, the guy who dabbled in commercials as kid gave up the surf gig to purse his real passion: acting. "Growing up, I was into girls and sports. Acting was just a hobby," says Paul. Sure, he'd had some pre-stardom success, like a couple of toddler commercials and a two-year stint on The Young and the Restless, but when he was cast in an episode Touched by and Angel in 1996, Paul admits he got bitten by the acting bug. Since then, he's been working nonstop on movies like Brokedown Palace with Claire Danes, the football flick Varsity Blues with James Ban Der Beek and the upcoming She's All That, in which he portrays a school jock alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. and R&B singer Usher. Whith all those meaty roles stacking up on his résumé, you'd think the blue-eyed Virgo would be okay with being in the spotlight, but that's not the case. In fact, at the premiere of Pleasantville last year, the 25-year-old was more excited about seeing 90210's Luke Perry in person than bout his own performance in the movie. "Dylan McKay came to see my movie!" he marvels, adding that he hates seeing himself on the big screen. "When my scenes come up, I close my eyes. It's so painful," he says. Well, at least we'll be keeping our eyes open for him.
