created for John Inman
I've been a fan of "Are You Being Served?" for years, and when I got the chance to see the stage production, staring John Inman, I felt compelled to make this figure. I gave this figure to John after the show. Here's some pictures, and if you want, you can see it before it was done by clicking HERE.
That's me! And John Inman! And my figure of Mr. Humphries!
The pictures honestly don't do it justice, but you'll just have to take my word for it... or ask John Inman.
| The base figure was a Mulder X-files figure. I had to change the stance, so instead of sanding the legs on one side and building them up on the other, I cut off the legs and switched them around. I did the same with the feet. Now it looks like the opposite of the bowlegged stance the figure originally had, which is more suited to the style of Mr. Humphries. |
This is the most work I've ever done to the face of the figure. The list includes re-sculpting the hair, a complete reconstruction of the mouth, a new forehead and there's creases around the nose and mouth to make him look like he's smiling, though you can't really tell by the pictures. |
Mr. Humphries also came with trademark measuring tape (for those tricky inside legs) and sales book (even though Mr. Rumbold never wants to see his sales book.) The watch chain on his waist coat is real chain as well.
It even came mint on the card! If I had had more time I would have done a better job with the carding, but who leaves their toys in the box anyway? |
John Inman is the first person I've ever given a figure I've made in their likeness. It was a great experience, and wouldn't mind doing it again. I think I can also say that I made the FIRST Mr. Humphries figure ever. I finished it the day of the performance, with 3 hours to spare.
