From the notes of Cathy Fair Clarine:
Barnabus FEHR arrived Sep. 19, 1749 on the ship Patience
to Philadelphia,
Pa. from Cowes, England and his original name was Johann
Bernhard Fehr. He
bought 25 acres of land on Oct. 2, 1752 according to
information from the
book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" pg 407 and 408. This
land is also
referenced in "Pennsylvania Archives" Series 3 Vol 26
Pg 269. Barabus is
also mentioned in the book "Moravians in North America"
Vol 2 pg 798.
A copy of his will was obtained via the "Abstract of North
Carolina Wills"
dated 1787. In his will he stated "I, Barnabus Fair ...",
but signed his
will "Johann Bernhard Fehr", showing they are one in
the same person.
His second wife, Elizabeth Waggoner, is the widow of Phillip
Waggoner..
Phillip's daughter Catherine Waggoner married Barnabus
Fair's son, Barnabus
Fair II.

The following is from "Kenneth Fair" .
I'm directly decended from Johan Bernhard Fehr, who I
call "JBF". I have
the record of him arriving on the Patience in 1749, as
well as a record of
the baptism of his son Hans Michel Fehr in 1755 at Trinity
Lutheran Church,
Reading, Pa. "Berend and Dorothea" are listed as the
parents, and "Berend"
is a nickname for Bernhard. They are listed as living
in Windsor township.
My research has JBF living in North Carolina at his death
in 1787.
I've been spending most of my time searching for Johan's
home in Europe,
with no result so far. I have some Catholic Church records
from Külsheim,
Baden that have a christening record of "Bernabus Fehr"
Dec 22, 1734. I've
found his father - Paul (b 1680) and Grandfather - Valentine
in the same
record. Its a real shame that I have no idea whether
it is the right
Bernabus or not.
I've got some more records on the way from 18th century
Rheinland - Pfalz
and Wurttemburg. I'll look there for any "Fairs." One
interesting thing I
have found in the Külsheim records - Paul had several
children, and his
name and those of his offspring have different spellings,
even in Germany!
I've seen Fehr, Fähr, and Föhr. Daugthers sometimes
have an -in added to
the family name, such as Fehrin.

The name appears in THE MORAVIAN RECORDS as Bernhard
Fehr. In
July Rev. George Soelle went to Belews Creek "stopping
at the
home of Bernhard Fehr, a man who feared God, kept good
order in
his house, and had properly trained children," MR 2:798.

They are listed as "Farr" rather than Fair. Their children
are listed as

Ruth(4), and
Almida(2).

This is consistent with Barnabas III moving to Pickens
County, having 1
more son,
and not having any of his other children pass away or
move out.
Barnabas III is also listed in the 1830 Alabama Census.
the household has 3
adults ( 1 male aged 20-30, 1 female aged 20-30 and 1
female aged 40-50)
and 3 children (1 male below 5, 1 male 5-10, and 1 female
below 5). No 70
year old man listed, and Barnabas II did not have his
own listing as head
of a household. The oldest female might have been the
Mother-in-law.
Barnabas II is listed in the 1790 and 1810 SCar Censuses,
in the Ninety-Six
District, Pendleton Co.
