The main characters here are the 9 year old twins of Maud'dib, Ghanima and Leto. As you would expect, they are not your traditional 9 year olds. At their young age, they are incredibly powerful, with the potential to grow into powers far beyond those of even Maud'dib himself. Paul's sister, Alia rules in his stead throughout this book, as the twins are deemed too young to rule. The only problem being that Alia has become quite insane, and other forces in the Universe would just as soon never see the twins grow to the age of ascension...
