Alexander LaVelle Harris has lived in Sunnydale, California, all his life. His best friend growing up was Willow Rosenberg-they use to play literal "doctor," with Willow using actual medical texts, Willow was at Xander's sixth birthday party when he was menaced by a clown, and each used to regularly sleep over at the other's house-and they remained only best friends until just recently. He was also best friends with Jesse, until he was turned into a vampire and Xander inadvertently staked him. Xander learned of Buffy's secret by overhearing her and Giles speaking in the library about it, and, along with Willow, he insisted on helping Buffy in her subsequent adventures.
Little is know about the Harris family. Xander has made inclinations that life in the household is far from a pleasent one. Xander's father supposedly once considered selling his son to some Armenians, and apparently neither parent can cook.
Althought not unintelligent by any means, despite referring to himself a "king of cretins", Xander has never excelled academically, relying on Willow to tutor him in many subjects, especially math.
Xander's love life has not been the most successful. Remaining cheerfully oblivious to how Willow feels about him until their fluke earlier this year, he instead pursued a variety of women who were no good for him, ranging from a sexy substitute teacher who turned out to be a praying mantis out for his head, to an exchange student who turned out to be a mummy that needed to drain the life out of people, to Buffy, for whom he has carried a torch for the moment he saw her and crashed his skateboard but who has not shown any interest. Although he once declared himself treasurer of the We Hate Cordelia Chase Club, Xander and Cordelia found themselves necking when they were trapped in Buffy's basement, and the pair of them became an item. After Cordelia broke up with him, Xander conspired with Amy Madison to cast a love spell on her, which backfired horribly, causing every woman in Sunnydale except Cordy to fall for him and nearly starting a riot. The desperate gesture, however, was enough to make Cordy give the relationship another chance. After the summer he and Cordy continued to date. Everything with them was fine until the homecoming dance. Xander and Willow were getting ready and the love that had been building for years culminated in a kiss between the two. Over the next few weeks they carried on a affair behind their respective others back. They were eventually discovered and Cordelia was hurt both emotionally and physically when she feel on a spike. Willow returned to Oz shortly after and Xander was alone. He got caught up in a crazey adventure one night when the gang thought the threat of the reopening of the Hellmouth was too much for him and he found himself actually saving Faith from a demon. When he took her home she seduced him into a one night stand and then sent him on his way. When Faith later was found out to have killed a man he was the first to go and offer his help to her, but she wound up strangling him for his trouble. He was saved only by the fast action of a lurking Angel. Xander's only other romantic involvement has been with Anya the former wish giving demon turned oridarnay girl. She seems to have a thing for him. She left when she heard of the ascention as she had barly survived one long ago.
Xander's primary contribution to the Slayerettes is not really physical-Buffy,Giles, and Angel are all better suited to the hand-to-hand stuff-nor intellectuall-Willow and Giles are more inclined in that direction-though he has done both on on occasion. His most important qualities are his loyalty to Buffy and the others and his willingness to do whatever is necessary to help out, though sometimes that gets in the way of his better judgment.
Xander was choosen by Buffy to be the key guy in her plan to fight the Mayor. With his knowledge from Halloween about how to be a soilder and lead he was put in charge of the Sunnydale students leading them to victory against mindnumbing odds. Xander will not be going to collage. He has decided to spend the summer on a trip of self discovery, do not be surprised if he should return with a certian former wish giving girl.
