The Department of Science and Technology has acquired and deployed 4 special buses, better referred to as the Mobile Information Technology Classrooms or MITCs. Its mission is to bring the latest innovations in the computer industry to places even signals of mobile phone networks cannot reach! It also aims to teach the students in the rural areas relevant IT skills. It's like bridging the gap between the remote areas of the country and the rest of the digital world, keeping in pace with the advances of science and technology.
Back to the buses, the MITCs will be traveling to the CARAGA and CAR areas, as well as the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Bicol regions, and Eastern Visayas. These special buses are equipped with laptop computers, audio-visual equipment and learning software, and goes around designated areas in the regions on schedule to make science learning through computers fun and easy.
The MITC bus can accommodate 32 students at one time. Electricity is no problem as it provides its own power that is needed to make the computers and other equipment inside work. A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Projector is also available for both computer and video projection on to a wide screen which the teacher can use in place of the blackboard.
For the teachers, trainings will be held for them to familiarize and exploit the uses of computer technology as a tool for teaching mathematics and science.
A fifth MITC bus is now planned to be deployed, ths time for the Southern Tagalog Region. This proves the success of the implementation of the project, which now has served over 160,000 as of 2001.
