Remember this picture? This was the living room...aka "The Scary Room".
When we first moved in we just threw everything we didn't have to have
immediately in here. Just cleaning it out was a major undertaking. Also,
the floor in this room had the most gunk on it. The carpet in the rest
of the house had been stapled to the floor, but in the living room it was
glued. And was it ever GLUED. One of my virtual "Old House" friends suggested
the stripper, Dad's Easy Spray. That stuff is evil, but it got the glue
globs off the floor! The living room doubled as a bedroom while my sister and
I were each working on our respective bedrooms. With boxes stacked head high, it
was kind of like sleeping in a warehouse. |

Here it is finished. The walls are still "nekkid", but finding just
the right accessories takes longer than the grunt work! Oh well, at least
that's the fun part. :-) |

For the first time in 6 years we actually have a dining room. This
was our living room until the real living room was finished. We've eaten
on TV tables for so long that sitting down to dinner at a real table feels
kinda strange. |

As you can see the hall became the catch-all room. If we couldn't find
any other place for it to go while we were working on the other rooms it
ended up here. Pretty soon there was just a little trail through the middle.
The dining table minus the leaves is to the left. Before some of these
larger pieces of furniture made their way to the hall we actually served
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner here for 4 years. Nothing like celebrating
in the middle of a construction zone! |

It looks pretty empty now, but at least the mess is gone. This floor
was in the worst shape of all the floors. It had LOTS of splinters. I spent
the better part of 2 months sanding it with a palm sander. My plans for
this room include a hall tree, a wardrobe for storage, a settee and lots
of old photos...as soon as funds will allow. But for now I'm just happy
not to have a work table and paint cans in it! |
