This is what my house looked like in it's previous life. It's a Colonial Revival vernacular. There are several houses within blocks of it's original site built in the same style. It looks like the typical turn of the century Texas style house. When I saw the picture in the newspaper listing it, "For Sale To Be Moved", it was love at first sight. I knew it was my house and I hadn't even seen the inside yet. It's probably a good thing I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. However, I can honestly say...now that the scary part is over...I really would do it all over again...with a few significant differences however. I'm only the 4th owner of this house. It was built in 1911 by the Maloney family. In fact one of my neighbors down the road is the daughter of the original owners. She was born in this house.  In the 20's the house was sold to the Mays family. They kept the house in the family until the 80's. It was then sold to the church next door and used as Sunday School space and for receptions. In 1993 the church decided to add onto their existing building and put the house up for sale to be moved.

This picture shows the hall. It's 9.5' wide and 33' long. Most old houses here were built with a central hall running the length of the house for ventilation purposes. The picture was taken standing just inside the front door looking toward the back door which opens onto the enclosed back porch. The ceiling fan (which had been painted beige to match the upper part of the walls...I can't imagine why) is a Westinghouse Sidewinder with an original light kit ( and probably original to the house). The house contained 3 of these. They're cast iron and probably weigh 75-80 lbs. each. The door of the left goes to the dining room and the door on the right goes to my bedroom. The nice beige carpet was a casualty of disasters yet to come. More about that later.
