Subject: Young Adult Novel

There are two major types of novels that I like to read: Star Wars, and humorous young adult novels. I have started reading Animorphs books, but some of the plot holes are so glaring I'm not sure if I will continue. My friends Kelly and Kirk say that the first few books are crummy and the series gets better.

Anyway, last week, my English teacher said that we have to read young adult novels. By that, she doesn't mean books written just for young adults, but rather, books about young adults.

I read a pretty good book, Young Adult Novel, which I highly reccomend, several months ago. The main characters are Daidists, and they put a toilet in their schools trophy case, and there were fanatical praetorians with Donald Duck hats, and, anyway, it was funny. The only problem with that book is that it has virtually no plot, but it is about "young adults", so I think that others like it will pass. I think I'll read another book by Daniel Pinkwater, who wrote that book.

About a year ago, I read a science fiction book called Sleepers, Wake, about a space ship with cryogenically frozen passengers. One interesting thing about it is that there was a character named Dody who woke up too soon, and so, without anything to make him mature, was still like a child some sixty years later. The other interesting element was this alien species, that was made up of, essentially, clones that never aged. However, these clones would wrinkle up eventually, and eject spores like fungi. Unfortunately, Dody made friends with one of the clones, and so the book had to deal with how he lost his only friend.

A favorite author of mine is Gordon Korman. His first book was published when he was twelve. He writes humourous young adult novels with eccentric characters. In A Semester in the Life of a Garbage Bag one of the characters, Raymond Jardine, compares himself with a Hefty bag.

I think that my favorite book series is the Star Wars books. Unfortunately, most of them feature adults as main characters. However, in the Young Jedi Knights series, teenagers are featured.

So many choices and so little time!

Funny, I've heard the same thing said about spoons!
