Kennesaw Mountain N.B. Park
Recreation Field #3
(Cheatham Hill Road)
The following map shows how to get to the Cheatham Hill Road flying site. This site is at Kennesaw Park, Recreation Field #3. Parking is along the West side of Cheatham Hill Road. You'll need to walk across Cheatham Hill Road, past the first, smaller field along the road, then through the wooded opening to the big field. This is about a 120 yard walk from the parking area to the flying area. From the parking lot, you can easily see the trail going to the field.
There are often people in the field - some getting a tan, others playing Frisbee, whatever, so you must exercise extreme caution when flying here. I always accept the attitude that their safety is my highest priority - if I can't fly safely among others, I'll go somewhere else, or fly another day.
I spoke to a park ranger & he told me it was fine to fly here so I have done so many many times. The size of this field is about (guessing) 150 x 500 yards. The field is at the top of a hill and gently slopes downward to the pine & hardwood forest. There are shaded picnic tables next to the parking area, however, it's okay to picnic in the field also.
There are no restroom facilities at the field. I'm guessing the closest gas station is about 1 1/2 miles away - take John Ward Road to Dallas Highway & turn left - go about 3/4 mile - a Chevron gas station is on the right. Getting back to the field from this Chevron station is a wee bit tricky. You must turn right out of the Chevron station, then immediately get into the left lane & you'll see the turn-around lane (you can turn around 180 degrees to the left - back onto Dallas Highway heading East).
