DAVID AGE 7

Our son David is 7. We wanted a program that would help his balance and coordination and not depend on speed or strength like other sports. David loves the horses and I'm glad. He's also learning responsibility in caring for "his" horse PACE. I looked for a program for many months and I'm glad we found HYH.

ASHLEY AGE 6

Our daughter Ashley loves the program. She is excited and happy to participate. I've seen an increase in her self-confidence and self-esteem. She talks about "her horse BO BO" during the week which we love to hear as speech is her disability. My husband and I both think the program is valuable to our child and others.

KAYLA AGE 4

Kayla is 4 yars old and is blind in one eye. She started the program when she was 3. Riding the horse and playing games while on the horse have really helped Kayla negotiate distance, turns, stops etc. She leads the horse out of the arena, mounts and rides the horse while manuevering around barrells and cones. Red light, green light, bandana hide and seek, water ballons etc... make it even more fun. Finally she helps bathe and brush the horse then leads it to pasture. This is truly a delightful experience for Kayla.

SAVANNA & JASMINE

Savanna (left) and Jan (right) enjoy a lesson.

Savanna and Jasmine have many emotional problems. Savanna 10 years old, has an hand to eye coordination problem and is also knock-kneed. Since coming to HYH They've improved so much.

Jasmine 7 years old has problems controlling her anger. She suffers from post traumatic stress syndrome. She is doing great and loves the lessons.

LAURIE

Laurie a 21 year old lady with Cerebral Palsy, visual impairment, and developmental delay, has been riding at HYH for over 2 years now. Although non-verbal, She eagerly participates during her weekly riding experience, which requires the trained assitance of four adult volunteers. In a fun and safe environment, she is lavished with attention and praised for such accomplishments as holding her head up, stretching her limbs, and moving in ways no other type of physical or recreational therapy can offer, since she must otherwise be in a wheelchair. It's a sneaky way of getting therapy and having fun at the same time!

SCOTT 6

Our son Scott has been with HYH about 1 year and he has gained so much confidence and strength from this experience. He completly enjoys his time with his horse and each of the volunteers. He is now able to mount and dismount almost independantly. He has grown so much physcally and mentally and we greatly appreciate this organization.

CHERYL

My name is Cheryl. I am 29 yrs old. I have been riding with HYH for 4 yrs. I like the recreational aspect of therapeutic riding. It gives me a chance to be outdoors doing something I love. Since I have cerebral palsy, it builds my muscle tone and relieves stiffness. This is the best type of therapy I have found so far.

DANIEL

Daniel and Terri at the annual horseshow

Daniel loves therapeutic horseback riding. He sleeps with his boots by his side every night. He talks about "his horse" Pace and looks forward to his weekly lesson.

Daniel is autistic and horseback riding has helped him with his communication, self esteem and his behavior. It has also helped his education has given him the opportunity to have a recreational activity the he enjoys, as you can tell by his never-ending smile.

NICHOLAS

My son's neurologist reccommended he take horse riding lessons to help improve his balance and gross motor skills. We've been riding at HYH for almost 9 months and he loves it. Not only has it helped his balance, but it helps his self esteem. He loves lessons and the volunteers and trainers are wonderful. Not only does he get to ride, he is learning how to care for the horses; the play games and have a great time.

RANDY

Hi! My name is Randy. I am 41 years old. I have been horseback riding for almost 2 years. I love horse riding. I wish I had one of my own. I heard about HYH from a friend. When I first started riding I was alright but now I have gotten a lot better, but I have a lot more to learn. I love the trainers Olympia and Jan. And I love the horses. And the lady who runs it, Terri. They are all very nice to me. I live in Ceres, CA and work at a movie theatre.
