The Bible is the Word of God
2 Timothy 3:16 says "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness."
This is really the basis of my faith, because everything I believe is taken from the bible, so if this is not true, neither is anything else. I believe that God verbally dictated the Bible to his pople, through the Holy Spirit, and that therefore every word of the original was 100% true and accurate, although translations are not necessarily devoid of error.
God created man perfect
Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The bible goes on to explain that he created them out of nothing, instantly, in six days, not using some kind of evolutionary process.
Later in Genesis 1 we are told that "God looked on all his creation, and saw that it was very good." Man was perfect living in a perfect world.
Man as originally created by God was without sin, and the world therefore had no death, no illness, so no wrongdoing of any kind.
Adam sinned and so all man is sinful
The devil came in the form of a serpant and tempted Adam to disobey God. Adam was our representitive, and therefore we all suffer the effects of this sin. We are told that "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23). Because Adam sinned all die,not only physically, but also spiritually and eternally.
Man is unable to help himself.
No matter how good a person is, they cannot work themselves to heaven. Salvation from the power of sin and hell can be found only in Jesus. As it says in Ephesians, "You are saved by faith, and that not of yourself it is the gift of God, not by works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
God loved the world, and sent his Son to save us.
Jesus came from heaven and lived a perfect life on earth, and died on the cross for the sins of mankind. John 1 makes it plain to us that Jesus is God, and therefore that his sacrifice on the cross for us will be accepted by God.
All people can be saved by faith in Christ Jesus.
All that is required for God to save sinners is trust and faith from that sinner, for them to ask God to forgive them their sins, and help them turn from them. Most importantly this implies that we cannot get to God just by doing good works (see above). It also implies that Christianity is the only way to God.
Christians should live a holy life.
The fact that we have been forgiven our sins does not give us an excuse to live as we want, and do whatever we like. We are called to a life of obedience to God.
The 'reward' for faith is an eternity in heaven with God.
Those who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their saviour and Lord will spend eternity with him. They will not be cast into hell, but will insted be in heaven in glorifed, perfect, bodies. As it says in John 3:16, "whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
