James Robert Harman Jr.


OLONGAPO, Philippines Retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer James Robert Harman, Jr., age 70, formerly
of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 17, 2011, in Olongapo, Philippines, where he had resided since his retirement.


He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his two sons, Fidela Harman of Olongapo, and his
parents, James R. Harman, Sr. and Doris Johnson Harman of Tuscaloosa.


Survivors include his wife, Josephina Harman of Olongapo; his sons, James Fidel Harman and Joseph Charles
Harman (Emily); and two granddaughters, Jamie Lee and Jacey Ann Harman, all of Tempe, Ariz.; his sisters,
Patricia Harman Bishop (Clay) of Leeds and Jane Harman Skinner (Owen) of Tuscaloosa; four nieces and nephews;
and seven great-nieces and nephews.


Jimmy graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1959 and attended the University of Alabama. He served his
country honorably in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 31 years of duty. He was a
highly-decorated Vietnam veteran who served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He loved his family,
his country, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jimmy was baptized again in 1998 and spent the remainder
of his life studying the Bible.


A memorial service remembering Jimmy's life, including family and friends, will be held at the First Baptist
Church, 7481 Parkway Drive in Leeds on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at 2 p.m.
