FROM THOMAS SAHM

I thought that I would say hello. I'm Thomas Sahm from the class of 64. We were the last of the War Kids, born before April 1946 like myself, and the first of the Baby Boomers. That means that only the other half of my class is in Bill Clinton's Generation. I graduated from the U of A in 1968 and beat my draft notice into the Air Force. I spent most of the next 22 years far from Tuscaloosa, over half of it in other countries. I retired from the Air Force in 1990 here in Goldsboro North Carolina and had to start working for a living. (Actually it is like a vacation compared to much of my time in the Air Force, and I even get paid overtime when I have to work weekends and holidays.)

I have three children. My oldest daughter, Sandra, is 28 and lives in Tuscaloosa as does my mother. My son, Thomas, is 14 and my daughter, Rebecca, is 12. They are, of course, still in school. My wife, Somlim, and I have been married for 15 years. We only have one serious point of contention. Computers are my hobby and she hates computers.

I made it to my 35 year reunion last year. I would have loved to have come to the mega reunion, but work interfered. They should try having the next one around July 4. My company closes down for maintenance then, so work would never interfere. Say hi to the coaches for me. I still remember Coach Henderson's driving class and all the HOT Football practice sessions.

If anyone runs into Ralph Hayden or Tommy Guin, also class of 64, say hi for me to them too.

I enjoy any praise that is given to our teachers and I recently got this email from a classmate, and in not using a name, this is the text of that email..................................

Sorry to diasppoint you, but I know NOTHING about web pages, setting one up, etc. I do not have one single photograph of school friends other than school pictures and annuals.

I keep in touch with several other Class of '64 members. However, other than those few, I doubt that anyone else in the class would have any interest whatsoever in my life, my daughter, my accomplishments, my anything for the last 36 years.

I love THS for the marvelous teachers we had. I am truly thankful that I went to school there and had wonderful teachers like Louise Cary, Anna Brown, Mrs. Vibbart, Martha Adams, Mrs. Phelps, Irene Little, Janice Rankin, Janelle Burroughs, and on and on. I think we got a top notch education - especially by today's standards!

I left Tuscaloosa in 1970 after I graduated from U of A. I went to one reunion - 1984 I think. It is difficult for me to get to Tuscaloosa - the motivation would have to be REALLY good.

Things do change and if the motivation and timing are right, it is a possibility that I might make the drive for a reunion.
Thanks for your interest and sorry not to be of any help.
