OK ... so you want to use the older versions of VP ... well ... I use it and prefer it for my own set-up ... here's the pluses and minuses of this software (as I see it) :
1) I get better resolution with them ... both on screen . .and in my gesture palette ... this will depend on your own system of course.
1) There is no "All Places" feature in the "Quick Directory" in the #1 version on this page ... you're stuck with only the "Cool Places" directory ... that is .. just Excite rooms will be listed here ... the #2 version (AOL VP) ... DOES have the "All Places" feature.
When the software opens and tries to connect ... you'll get a pop-up on the screen which will tell you that the "server is down" ... well ... thats no lie ... it is ...gone .. history ... so ... you have to have it connect to the existing VP server ... and you do this as follows ...
Click on the "Add" button (bottom right of the box) ... then click on "Set Default" .... then if the server you entered is highlighted ... click on the "connect" button ... and you will connect to Excite .... happy chatting .. hehe ....

Want the "old" version of VP that allowed gesturing in IMz? (and better resolution?!?) Well .. here it is .. in all itz glory :) Note - Read below for Info ...
Heres another version ... the "AOL" version - has the gest-in-IM capability AND the "All Places" feature in the Quick Directory. Cant be patched tho :( This version will work with IE5 ... read below for more info ...

Compatible with IE5, and supposed to stop the Illegal Operations caused by boot gestures/invalid avz/Room Kill
Info on these versions of the VP Software
2) No need to "patch" to get "gesture-in-IM" capability ... both these versions has it.
2) Some "add-on" programs (room busters etc.) designed for the current VP version may not run with these older versions.
3) The #1 version here is fully "patchable" (ie. bigfile/mega/bubbletime) while the AOL version (#2) can NOT be patched (though it will run games and Megaheads)
4) When you open the software (either version) ... it will attempt to connect to the default "community server" ... which ... has gone the way of the Dodo .... so .... you have to reconfigure it ... ok ... I'll tell you how ... rad below
5) These older VP versions will not run with IE4. However, the AOL version (#2) WILL work with IE5. They will also run with the older versions of Netscape, though I'm not sure if they will run with versions 4 and above. (Someone tell me :))
