It is a hot summer day at Jerdan Weyr. The sun is scorching your neck as you climb down from the blue dragon you rode to get here. You go into the Lower Caverns to see if there is some relief from the heat. You walk into a humid atmosphere. The caverns are as hot as outside because of the midday meal being cooked. You take pity on the poor people having to work in that awful heat, but you decide to escape it by going to visit your good friend R'don.
You walk up the many flights of steps, and finally, you reach the brown rider's weyr. You walk inside and look around. It is a tidy weyr with all the equipment neatly stacked in the corner. You keep searching the room for its occupent. When you realize that he is not there, you walk out onto the ledge.
You look out over the Bowl to see the heat taking its toll on the other people. You keep looking around, but the heat is making you sick. You look towards the lake and see a figure and a brown walking toward the Lower Caverns. You decide you have to go in or be sick.
You walk back in and sit down at a table in the corner. Just as you settle yourself, Dedith waddles in and gets onto his stone couch. You notice that he has grown tremendously since you last saw him. You walk over and rub his eyeridges. He starts to croon with pleasure as R'don walks in. R'don walks over to greet you.
"Hello," he says leading you to the table you had just left. "Where have you been? It has been a while since I saw you here."
"I have been really busy," you say sitting down next to the brown rider.
"So have I," he says laughing. "Dedith keeps me extremely busy."
"I have noticed that he has grown quite a bit since I last saw him," you say glancing at the brown.
R'don follows your line of vision. "Wow! He really has grown quite a bit. I've been so busy taking care of him that I hadn't noticed." You both laugh at each other's shock at the dragon's size. Just then two fire-lizards appear in the room. One is blue and the other is gold. They land neatly on the rider's shoulders. You look directly at R'don who gives you a broad smile.
"Are those two yours," you ask him directly.
"Yes, they are," he says with the same broad grin still on his face.
"How did you aquire them," you ask curiously.
"Well, after you left the last time, I decided to go to the Lower Caverns. I went to the hearth to look at the fire-lizard eggs. Just as I was leaving, the eggs began to rock. Suddenly, fire-lizards were appearing all over the place. They all landed neatly near the clutch and began humming. I was transfixed. I turned and watched as the little eggs split open. People were all around me now. Then everything started happining at once. I had a bowl of meat shoved into my hands, and some one told me to feed the new hatchlings. All around me people were Impressing fire-lizards, but I was still transfixed on the hatching itself. I finally snapped out of it and fed the nearest fire-lizard which was a blue. I decided to name him Yoshi. I held him in my arms as I fed him. When he was finally full, I was the only one left at the hearth. No one seemed to pay any attention to the one rather large egg left," he says smiling. "It began to rock, and somehow I knew that I was going to Impress a gold. She toppled out of the shell and into my hand. I fed her just like I had fed the blue, and I named her Zara," he says finishing.
"Wow! You just happen to be in the right place at the right time didn't you," you say smiling. You both laugh, and you spend the rest of the afternoon catching up with R'don. When you finally leave, you promise him that you will come back and visit him and Dedith.
