Bob Riley 2002

In 1998, Democrat Don Siegleman was elected Governor of Alabama on the whimsical promise of a statewide lottery. A year later, the lottery went on the ballot to be decided by the people. After the pro-lottery campaign outspent the opposition by a wide margin, Siegleman's lottery was defeated by a resounding no from the people.

More recently, "The Don" has pushed for proration to cut spending for public education. After a special session, the state legislature has yet to come up with any solutions to the drastic cuts to schools, particuarly universities and colleges. Siegleman has all but publicly admit that he is at his wits end and out of ideas.

This being said, we have a chance to begin again in the state of Alabama. Congressman Bob Riley is running for Governor in 2002. Congressman Riley is a man who is full of ideas and solutions. He is a man that realizes that Alabama desperately needs to draft a new state constitution.

In order for the state of Alabama to step into the 21st century, it first needs to climb it's way into the 20th century. So I say, Don Siegleman, you've had your turn at the wheel. You have no fresh ideas and no new solutions. You ran in 1998 on a promise you could not deliver. You fooled many people with your lottery scheme. Now it's time for you to move over and let Bob Riley drive. Mr. Riley, please take this car out of reverse and let's get going, there's much to be done.

E-mail Bob Riley and urge him to run for Governor in 2002.
