My R1100RT

This was my first BMW.

As you can see from the picture below, it was pretty bare bone. I had a long way to go to get it where I wanted it. My internet searching began again. I found Cary's R1100RT page. With the help of the fine folks there I was able to locate a cover for it, then a top case. I bought a Rev-Pack Jr tank bag and posted an add on the IBMWR site that I was looking for side cases. I found them in Canada.

I made an antenna mount, where I mounted a CB antenna and a 2-Meter Ham antenna. I use an ADI AT-201 HT for 2-meter Ham communication and a Chatter Box HJC-27A for CB and intercom. I have Panasonic SL-SX469V CD/Radio (which has a wired remote). I use Velcro to attach the remote to the top of the map folder. I use the Chatter Box speakers and mic mounted in my helment. For the 2-meter I use a Pryme earbud w/boom mic. The CD player and my radar detector plug into the Chatter Box unit and it all fits into the Chatter Box tank bag. I strap the Chatter Box Bag on top of my Rev-Pack Jr.(you can see a photo on my Iron Butt page)

To increase visibility at night, I installed Buddy Lights on the rear to convert the turn signals to running lights and installed a set of home made auxillary tail lights. I also placed some 3M black reflective tape on the rear of the side cases, and the rear and both sides of the top case.

To make the brake light more visable, I installed a set of Hyper Lites and wired two ford corner marker lights to the circuit and placed them in the empty area around the brake light.

For the front I installed a set of small fog lights under the oil cooler and a set of driving lights under the rear view mirrors. I also replaced the sockets for the front turn signals with GM tail light sockets to allow dual filament bulbs. The turn signals now serve as running lights and turn signals.

It's nice to be seen, but I also wanted to be heard, so I installed a set of Wolo dual air horns. Now if I blow the horn, people won't pull out in front of me because they are looking for the truck.

To add a little comfort, I followed the instructions of Dan from Cary's BBS and installed some Confor Foam in both seats and also installed a set of Bar Backs. I installed an Aero Flow wind shield to give a little added protection from the elements.

I decided to play around with the power so I installed a set of intake manifold tubes and a cat code plug from a GS model BMW. This increases the hp and torque from about 4,000 to 6,500 rpm. A 5-10% increase in fuel milage has also been reported. The down side is you are supposed to loose about 4 mph off of the top end. I'll never know if that's true, but it does make it more responsive to ride at highway speeds.

It's getting close to where it should be and I enjoy riding it almost everyday.

This was taken the day of my test ride.

From this picture you can see where I started, and the following pictures show where I am now. There have been quite a few changes.
