Welcome Letter and Elder Decree

Ri Shoo Welcome Letter

Welcome to Ri Shoo Mountain!

We have eight message boards (bands) you can read depending at what altitude you are currently. To read what others have written (posted), click on the 'read' link to the right. Every time you logon you will be at 0 altitude, where the first message band is. The others are at 1, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256.

Click on the 'scrolls' link located to the right of this message to understand a little of what Pyroto is about. They are written a little fuzzy, so if you have ANY questions post them on the message bands, and the wizards of Ri Shoo will be happy to reply to you. You can send a message by either clicking on the 'send' link to the right of this message or by clicking the 'reply' button at the bottom of someone else's post.

It's against the rules to post the trivia questions and material that is not written by you such as email forwards, essays from books or online sites, etc. Gibberish is also looked down upon. I’d recommend you print or save your scrolls and the rules (from the 'Terms of Service' link at the bottom of each page) and read them thoroughly later. You'll get new scrolls every few levels gained, so keep clicking on Scrolls for new info.

THE most important thing to do is intereact with other Ri Shoovians. Feel free to join in any conversations and reply to any message. Go on a tangent or change the subject. You can start a new thread when you click on 'send'. The best way to start getting the hang of posting is to tell us about yourself. How did you hear about Pyroto? Where are you from? What are your hobbies or interests? Family? Politics?

We can talk just about anything, so post to gain Esteem 'points'. You need them to climb the mountain. Make posts of several, double-spaced paragraphs. You get more Esteem that way.

Good Luck!

Elder Decree for the Mountain of Ri Shoo in the Land of Pyroto.

We, the Council of Elders of Ri Shoo (henceforth the CoE), have united to present these words to assist wizards in understanding our purpose and methods of operation. The CoE believes in openness and therefore these words and supporting documents are posted publicly on the internet for all wizards to see and read at their leisure. Please note that these rules exist to protect wizards from unjustified attacks, to prevent cheating, and to foster a sense of fellowship and community on Ri Shoo. They are not intended to (nor should they) censor free speech on the mountain.

It should be noted that this document applies only to actions that occur on Ri Shoo Mountain. The CoE does not have the desire (or the resources) to police the Ether or deal with intermountain affairs (these are best left to the Mountain Politics Ether). The CoE respectfully requests wizards on other mountains to consult with them before taking action against Ri Shoo Wizards, as all Wizards on Ri Shoo are considered to be under the protection of the CoE.

Articles of the Decree:

  • Purpose. The CoE exists for two purposes:
    1. To assist wizards in becoming acclimated to life on the Mountain of Ri Shoo.
    2. To enforce the "Meta-Rules" of Pyroto (as outlined in the Scrolls) and the CoE's rules that they have created to promote fairness and equality on Ri Shoo.

  • Membership. The following wizards are members of the CoE. New wizards may be admitted to the CoE if they receive sponsorship from a current member and the membership is approved by a majority vote (note that normal voting only requires a plurality of votes to win) in accordance to the voting procedure detailed in Article Three. Although the membership of the CoE is overwhelmingly made up of members of the Pyro-Maniacs climbing team, an Elder is not required to be Pyro-Maniac: and conversely, joining the Pyro-Maniacs does not confer membership in the CoE. The CoE and the Pyro-Maniacs are separate entities and should be treated as such in all cases.

  • Voting Procedure. All votes will be handled in the following manner.
    1. A member must introduce the item for consideration.
    2. Another member must second the item.
    3. Two days time will be allowed for debate. All debate must occur in the Ri Shoo Politics Ether channel so that all wizards on the mountain may express their opinions. All wizards are encouraged to participate in the debate.
    4. At the expiration of debate time, the member who introduced the item shall call for a vote. These votes shall be cast in secret, via e-mail to the secretary of the CoE. Only members of the CoE may cast a vote. The voting deadline is two days.
    5. At the end of the voting deadline (or after all members of the CoE have voted, whichever comes first) the votes are counted. Each vote is weighted according to the highest level ever reached of the wizard who cast the vote. The scale is below.
      1. Magenta = 3
      2. Indigo = 2
      3. Centurion (Blue above level 100)= 1
    6. The option that receives a plurality of weighted votes is the course of action to be taken. In the event of a tie in the weighted vote count, the choice receiving a plurality of votes prior to weighting is the winner. Some votes may require a majority vote to pass, including but not limited to: Admitting new members of the CoE and administration of punishments that include irreversible effects (Level 4 2nd offenses or higher).

  • Communication: Members of the CoE are required to provide an e-mail address that can be published in the CoE Decree so that wizards may privately communicate with them. This address may be your main address, or one that has been created specially for this purpose. Additionally, members are encouraged (but not required) to use ICQ and share their ICQ number with the other members of the CoE (This number will only be published at the member's request). Wizards are encouraged to limit political comments to the Ri Shoo Politics Ether, however it is understood that often times private communication is needed or desiered.

  • Offenses and Punishment. It is the policy of the CoE to be understanding and helpful to wizards, however, due to unjustified use of attack spells or violations of the following rules which are derived from both the "Meta-Rules" of Pyroto and the CoE sense of fair play and decency, we may be required to take action. No wizard shall just jump into action against another wizard, the following rules shall be in force. In the case of unjustified use of attack spells, it is the policy of the CoE to repair the damage done to the best of their ability.
    1. Offenses
      1. Bad HTML in messages. Everyone makes mistakes. This is very subjective and we only seek to prevent it from becoming a problem. There are Ether channels dedicated to "Taking HTML for a test drive." Test your HTML there before you make a mess of the message bands. Level 0 offense.
      2. CAPing in messages. Wizards may, to a certain extent, cut and paste copyrighted material or material that is not original if doing so to make a point. Examples that would be acceptable: A few sentence quote from a movie, a couple lines out of a song, a quote from a historic figure, a few lines from another wizards message to make your response clearer. In all cases where CAPing is used it must be accompanied by your own material. Level 1 offense.
      3. Smerf Stories and Spam. Don't fill the message boards with junk that nobody wants to read. Don't post your daily diary every day just for Esteem points. Again, this is subjective. Level 1 offense.
      4. Obscenity in messages. The members of the CoE are very open minded, however, sexually explicit content or language will not be permitted. Again there are Ether channels devoted to these topics. The More Time/Meta-Rules Scroll states that the wizops define "obscenity" as "anything that is wantonly spiteful or gratuitously shocking, and thoroughly lacking in artistic or intellectual merit." This is the definition that the CoE shall use as well. Also forbidden on the message boards is the discussion of illegal activities, and the use of racist terms: these will not be tolerated. Level 1 offense.
      5. Mass promotions. It is the opinion of the CoE that wizards should earn their levels, however, as a gesture of good faith or reward the promote spell may be used with the following restrictions. Level 2 offense.
        1. No wizard may give more than five levels to another wizard in the same day.
        2. A wizard may not be promoted more than 10 levels in one week by the same wizard.
        3. No wizard may promote another wizard across a band.
        4. No wizard above level 500 may receive a promotion.
        5. Exceptions: Mass promotions may be given to restore levels lost in migration or in attacks that are deemed unjustified by the CoE.
      6. Unjustified use of the Hurl Spell. Few spells are quite as potent as the Hurl Spell. With it you can silence the voice of any wizard, Grey to Magenta. It is the duty of each band elder to Hurl offensive messages, but in all cases, a hurl must be accompanied by a post explaining the reasoning behind the use of the Hurl Spell. Even the Elders contemplate the effects before using the Hurl Spell. A wizard may Hurl up to two of his own messages every Pyroto week (ten days) without attracting the attention of the CoE, but repeatedly Hurling your own messages will be brought into question. Wizards have been known to post long "Smurf Stories" on message bands and then quickly Hurl them, keeping the Esteem gained. The CoE views this as cheating and it will not be tolerated. Level 2 offense.
      7. Unjustified use of reversible Attack Spells. Any attack spell used on Ri Shoo shall be reviewed in the Ri Shoo Politics Ether Channel. The CoE reserves the right to drain a wizard into negs prior to review if the wizard is felt to be a danger to other wizards. If such action is taken and after review the attack is deemed justified, the drained manna will be restored. The voting procedure outlined above shall be used in determining if the attack was justified or not, and what actions should be taken by the CoE. The unjustified use of a reversible Attack spell is a Level 3 offense. Reversible attack spells are those that affect only Manna or Sorcery Levels.
      8. Unjustified use of Non-reversible Attack Spells. These spells affect Esteem (in addition to other effects). Esteem can only be earned by posting, and cannot be replaced in any other way. Such attacks are considered extremely serious and will receive a quick response from the CoE. Level 4 offense.
      9. Unjustified use of Banish spell. The Banish spell is the most dangerous in all the Land of Pyroto. Once you Banish a Wizard, he is gone forever. Should you use the Banish spell, be prepared to explain your self quickly or you will find yourself Banished. Level 5 offense.
      10. Logging in another person's wizard. Similar to operating a Zombie, you may not log in using another person's wizard. Level 6 offense.
      11. Operating Zombie wizards. Operation of Zombie wizards is cheating. Should you be discovered operating a Zombie you will be reported to the wizops. Under current Pyroto rules, you are allowed to have two wizards: Your main identity and a minion. Minions are not allowed to Ascend to sanctification (level 16) and must be clearly identified with the word minion at the end of their names. The CoE defines a Zombie as a wizard that is operated by another wizard that is not identified as a minion and has advanced past sanctification. Level 6 offense.
    2. Punishments. Punishments are handled by the elder of the band in which the offense occurred except for mass promotions, attacks, and zombie wizards that are dealt with by the full CoE. Sentencing rules follow. In all cases dealing with messages, it is up to the Band Elder's discretion to hurl offending messages. The CoE keeps records of what actions have been taken against wizards, and reserves the right to increase the severity of punishments for those wizards with prior offenses.
      1. Level 0 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Informal warning
        2. 2nd offense -- Becomes a Level 1 first offense
      2. Level 1 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Informal warning
        2. 2nd offense -- Formal warning
        3. 3rd offense -- Severe Formal warning
        4. 4th offense -- Loss of one level
        5. 5th offense -- Loss of five levels
        6. 6th offense -- Becomes a Level 2 second offense
      3. Level 2 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Formal Warning
        2. 2nd offense -- Loss of ten or 1/2 current levels (less of the two)
        3. 3rd offense -- Issue is sent to CoE for discussion
      4. Level 3 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Loss of levels or manna equal to damage inflicted.
        2. 2nd offense -- Loss of levels or manna equal to twice damage inflicted.
        3. 3rd offense -- Becomes Level 4 second offense
      5. Level 4 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Loss of levels or manna equal to damage inflicted.
        2. 2nd offense -- Loss of levels and manna equal to damage inflicted and Reduced.
        3. 3rd offense -- Demoted to level 0 and Drained to -512 manna
        4. 4th offense -- Becomes Level 5 first offense
      6. Level 5 Offenses
        1. 1st offense -- Demoted to level 0, drained to -512 manna and Reduced to 0 Esteem. Or catapult to uninhabited mountain.
        2. 2nd offense -- Banishment
      7. Level 6 Offenses
        1. These are reported to the wizops.
