Salaries Of The Crew

 

Captain Edward John Smith: £105 a month.
Chief Officer Henry Tingle Wilde: £25 per voyage.
Sixth Officer James Pell Moody: £8 per voyage.
Radio Operator John George Phillips: £4 and 5 shilling per voyage.
Radio Operator Harold Bride: £2 and 2 shilling and sixpence per voyage.
Chief Purser Herbert Walter McElroy: £20 per month.
Musicians: £4 a month.
Postal Clerks: $1,200 per annum.
Able bodied seamen: £5 a month.
Lookouts: £5 and 5 shilling a month.
Chief Steward: £20 per voyage.
First-Class Stewards: £3 and 15 shilling per voyage.
Stewards: £3 and 10 shilling per voyage.
Stewardesses: £3 per voyage.
Chef Cook: £20 per voyage.
Cooks: £4 and 10 shilling - £7 per voyage.
Butchers and Bakers: £4 and 10 shilling - £6 per voyage.
Scullions: £3 and 10 shilling per voyage.
Chief Engineer: £35 per voyage.
Engineers: £8 and 10 shilling - £11 and 10 shilling per voyage.
Assistant Electricians: £8 per voyage.
Stokers: £6 per voyage.
Trimmers: £5 and 10 shilling per voyage.
Greasers: £6 and 10 shilling per voyage.

Note:
The range of salaries was quite extreme in 1912. In today's money, Captain Smith earned about $72,500 per year while Stewardesses earned only $2,400 per year!
